The Hobo G35, now with retrofits

Re: The silver surfer

Hmmmm so what's next for the car?

Currently I'm at a 3.4 pulley and it's knocking a bit so Imma slap a 3.5 on soon to grab those lost ponies.

After being at the 2.8 e85 race kinda made me look at the car in another light. A good one lol. So how far do i want to go with the car.

It's currently at 115,000 miles. No issues at all. Should I stay at the 3.4 level and terrorize mustangs and other cars in that bracket or do I go balls out and go cam (which I hate, well the noise) and drop to a 3.2.

Im not looking to rebuild a trans of spend tons of money. Maybe I can add some modest power without breaking the bank. E85? Meth? Zex?

Thoughts?

3.4 rocker downpipe cars rip pretty good for very simple mods. First thing you need either headers or a downpipe ASAP. If your on a MPS hub I have a 3.5 or 3.6 until the knock is fixed. Ask scotty how much a good tune and rockers with a 3.4 help........ Glad I could shed a little light on what E85 is really worth on these cars! If you add rockers and headers and pick up some 42# injectors then you'd be able to run e85. If you decide to get a cam skip the 42s and get at least 60s.....

Re: The silver surfer

e85 is great mod. I'd go with 60# injectors, Racetronix/Walboro/AEM fuel pump + Rewire, tune. Done. Great power gains, $1 less per gallon and no cam "lope" so it's more of a sleeper.

Or go with the VS cam if you want something with minimal noise and drive-ability. You can DD virtually any cam, but the VS is very easy on the valvetrain. It was actually designed to run on the stock Valvetrain, I think. (But I still wouldn't).

Lastly, do both. VS cam + e85. Be able to run 20*+ of timing on a 3.0? pulley. Would definitely be a very quick car.

Re: The silver surfer

Agree with all the above minus the VS cam S1X instead because im bias for some odd reason towards the S1X cam lol.......... Its all about building blocks imo I'd throw headers on it and pick up some 42#s to get rid of the knock and run E85. I mean cmon Injectors and headers Im talking like 300 bucks in parts if that. Once that phase is done then you can add either rockers or a cam. Im pretty certain a 3.4 would NOT knock on a stock rocker stock cam setup with E85, cam or rockers would certainly help of course.

Re: The silver surfer

I still wouldnt get 42# injectors when running e85. I've been told many times, that is cutting it close. 60# are literally the exact same price, so why not just buy those, give yourself a little bit of head room incase you ever decide to take the car further with a cam or intercooler.

Re: The silver surfer

Just need a plan. How far you want to take the car.

But first and for most, you need headers. Our stock manifolds breathe no better than a couple coffee straws.

Obviously, with a blower build you need flow, unlike a turbo. Start basic, get headers. Then decide if you want to e85, cam, or both.

Re: The silver surfer

Eh. Sell PLOG and DP, buy SD headers or some used ones on a facebook group or forum.

I picked up my SLP's for $300 shipped, 2 years ago. You can easily find headers for cheap.

Re: The silver surfer

42s can be had under 100 bucks, a set just sold here in the FS section for 80. 60s cost 200 at least. Yes 42s on E85 simply because its basically throw in and fill up the tank with the good stuff. 60s require tuning and yes id go for 60s if cam and or rockers was merely a possibility.

Re: The silver surfer

Ive seen upwards of 2* of knock on the setup and was going to up it to a 3.5 to eliminate that. I know the debate on headers and the plog downpipe combo but on my previous grand prix I ran the same setup with no knock. I know all cars are different so the headers might not be a bad option.

Re: The silver surfer

Get headers son! Finally smellin the roses lol just take it to a exhaust shop before you do the install so they can get the flex pipe bolts unloosened
