The end of E85?

So I came across this:

https://science.house.gov/hearing/s...t-hearing-epa-renewable-fuel-standard-mandate

It is a congressional committee about the renewable fuel standard. Click where it says webcast to watch the hearing. Its long, but all worthwhile in my opinion.

I am curious to hear what we the consumer have to say about the claims being made here from the committee members, and the witnesses they brought forward to give testimony. Seemed to me that they said E85 is on its way out.

they need to get the ethanol out of gas. it ain't nothing but farmers welfare. the only thing it's accomplished is to lower fuel mileage , increase food prices , and make iowa corn farmers rich. the F'n politicians allow the ethanol scam to keep playing out , out of fear of losing the iowa vote. they let the genie out of a bottle and are now afraid to try to put it
if they wanna keep e85 that's cool , but give the consumer back the option to buy gas without ethanol instead of forcing it on us.

lol @ bandook... please tell me when you've ever seen food prices go down ? on sale don't count.

Yeah they tell us food prices are going up because of gas prices, then gas goes down 50% and a friggin steak doesn't drop two pence. The bs they feed us... However I did pick up 2.5 lbs of 75/25 tonight for 3.50 and it made some amazing burgers. Not on sale, bit I've never seen this stuff at Kroger's. Wait, wut was the topic?

E85 has been on its way out for quite some time now. it's not sustainable, only reason it is still in production is because the government subsidizes it. it actually costs more money to produce than the amount of money it makes.

Food prices are out of control and i do believe e85 helped cause the increase but you are right EHB prices will not come down.
Farmers that grow corn and beans do not need govt subsidies. Around here the growing farmers are loaded and the livestock farmers are poor.
Growing farmers have the newest trucks, equipment, motor-homes and such while most of the livestock farmers drive old junk. I know of several livestock farmers that have been put out business because of higher feed cost. My uncle a hog farmer was put under. I must say my aunt made the best bacon i have ever had.

E85 will die because right now oil is cheap and why should the govt subsidize it when oil and reg gas is cheap and gets better mileage.

Oil prices drop it effects EVERYTHING/End of Story LOL!

Ohh and even if E85 dies still fvckinterfailersillneveruseA2Winterfailersarejunk.jpg!

the very same reason they've always subsidized it.... iowa is a swing vote state. whatever party pulls the plug on iowa farmers welfare will feel the wrath of iowa voters. none of those spineless self serving politicians are going to sacrifice their license to steal for us useless peasants.

The problem with the whole E85 thing from the beginning is using corn. There's other things to use besides corn that's better.
