The Big Bad Brake Thread

Im gonna get a dude to tap my brackets.
...and i will get some banjo bolts. What about the sliding pin thingys?

Just wanted to throw a few things on here for the big brake guys. I have verified these facts myself and know them to be true.

#1 The 2013 Cadillac XTS 4 piston Brembos WILL bolt on a wbody with no modification to anything. They are very similar in size to the Camaro SS and CTS-V calipers but they are going to be standard equipment on XTS so they should be on Ebay cheap soon enough. I have no ideas what rotors fit, the only thing I can find says the XTS has a 13.6" rotor. Probably the 14" GT500's if I was going to guess.

#2 The ZL1 Camaro 6 piston Brembo caliper WILL bolt on also. No modification, bolts directly on...is gigantic. ZL1 has a 14.6" rotor. I dont know what rotors fit a wbody or what you need to do to make any of it work at all. Just saying....it bolts on.

Yes, you only need the four rubber boots for the new brackets. All the old bolts transfer over. You can use the old ones, but good luck getting them out of the brackets intact. Most parts stores will have them in stock if you need them. I think I grabbed mine at Autozone.

Finally did this today. Over a year after this conversation and the parts have been painted for about 8 months, sitting on the shelf. Easy job - I should not have put it off this long. Thanks again for the tips.

Now, I just have to make a list of part numbers I used, so I know when I replace the rotors and pads next time.

LOL Yes... majorly different bolt pattern.

5x120 I think

vs our 5x115/114.3(mustang)

Those will work, but the rotors/pads will likely be cheaper quality. Most users have found the R1 Concepts to be a good rotor, and they have a Ebay store with good deals too.

Yea i thought so, yea i looked at R1 concepts and they want like 100$ for shipping. Im not gonna use those pads i just want the rotors, i like the look of them and i know the driling and slots really make no difference. And they are the cheapest i have found with free shipping.

Also I don't need extended lines do I? id rather not replace if i don't need to.

Not for sure on the lines. I know most upgrade to steel braided lines for the F-bodys, I think there is a problem with the banjo bolt size difference, could be wrong. I have a set I got for cheap, still work to be done on them and install will probably happen this spring.

correct but also incorrect. The wheel bolt pattern is different but the rotors are now manufactured with a universal bolt pattern to increase the interchangability. Here is the link to the actual ad that I clicked buy it now on for the rotors that are on my car right now. 1998-2002 Fbody --- Front Kit Powersport Slotted Brake Rotors Ceramic Pads | eBay

OP - Why waste money buying a rotor and pad set for a w-body then throwing away the pads? Buy a f-body rotor/pad set and have all the stuff you need in one shot. Also unless you have the extra to spend and really want to. The stock lines and banjos work fine just get new crush washers and pull the bracket that attaches the rubber hose to the hard line out and inch or so until the rubber hose is slack with the wheel turned all the way out.

When I did my f body upgrade, I bought f body rotors from Summit. They just slid over the wheel studs and the center hole was perfect. That's how the rotor aligns. I also did the bend mod on the hose bracket and it works fine. I have longer(front) stainless braided lines that I'll put on when I get the time.

You can not reuse the grand Prix slider =/ went to install today and can't because slider does not fit. Now I have to wait for Napa to get them in. I swear to god if the rotors don't fit and I listened to everyone here I'm gonna freak

You bought calipers without slider pins? strange...

F-body rotors correct? Then your fine.

I see some people are on here saying don't use F-body rotors...THIS IS INCORRECT!

F-body Rotors are what you should use, the bolt pattern holes are enlarged to fit 5x114.3. Do not use 04+ Grand Prix Rotors, your pads will not fit the rotor correctly.
