Tap shift not working?

I have an 04 GTP Comg G. I didn't know it was the comp g. until I seen the Competition Group under my GTP badges and heard comp g only has the tap shift - which I have. I put the gear into "M" but nothing different changes? it still shifts by its self. I notice when I do put it into "M" it says "3" on the display screen.. Hmm, I don't quite understand? I also heard if the fuse is bad my cruise wouldn't work either but it does - bummer... Any suggestions on how to activate/fix this problem? My trans shifts great so my trans is fine..??

Usually cruising around under 40-45 your car will stay in 3rd. At least that's what mine does. Try shifting through all the gears from a stop and see what happens. Also the transmission is electronically controlled no matter if you have it in D or M so if you get to the shifting point and don't shift, it will do it for you. That way you don't bounce off of the rev limiter.

@hcokiid18, I have read your post about the tap shift in your 2004 Grand Prix. Would you mind sending me a private message with your VIN? I would like to do some research about this for you to include looking into your build sheet information and things like that.

My tap shift is also not working. Same vehicle - 04 gtp competition. Also, I'll be driving along in auto > 80 km and if I let off the gas, it feels like it's shifting down. The car jolts as it tries to slow and the RPM are sent roaring. Now it seems like this problem began around the time the battery died, which we charged a couple of times, then replaced. Not sure if there is any connection or not. Help?!

Honestly, tap shift is just a gimmick on these cars. The PCM knows the best point to shift, tap shift is exactly the same as shifting between gears with a normal shifter column. The car will over ride both when it needs to, I only use my shifter on hills where the car insists on upshifting, only to downshift a minute later.

when engaged, the pcm should not be able to take over and upshift.....if you reach too high of a speed/rpm you should hear a loud chime, the pcm is supposed to limit your speed to protect the trans, but once again should not upshift for you....now it'll downshift for you when coming to a stop, but that's it....you can also start out in 2nd gear from a dead stop....and be able to throw it into Tap Shift even while driving, which is the only time it really can help say you want to downshift and take off....but with 4 gears the fun is limited....

Mine just bounces off the rev limiter... it only downshifts to 1st at under 10mph. Never once has it upshifted for me...
