Sway Bar replacement

So I took my 98 GTP to the garage for PA inspection and the mechanic said I needed a replacement sway bar. I haven't dug into it too far but I've never heard of someone having to replace a sway bar...I've heard of replacing the end links or mounting bushings but the entire sway bar seems unlikely It has some surface rust but it's not bad. Wouldn't it have to be broken or cracked to need replacing

was it front or rear. And if its your rear sway bar get a gmpp with moog end links, if its front sway replace with doorman along with moog end links. You will get much better handling aswell

Yeah I pulled the passenger side tire and there it was a nice chunk missing by the end link so time for a replacement. Thanks for the info guys

Go to your local JY find a impala Police cruiser that's what I did that front sway bay is huge compared to ours unfortunately the back one on it did not look any bigger than mine

GMPP rear is solid and 19mm vs a hollow 17mm bar. But solid will be less prone to breaking and the dorman will be new and new is always better. Especially because it hasn't been sitting in a junk yard for years

The rear sway bar on our cars stock is solid. But go on summit and order a GMPP bar, it's just as strong as the dorman but lighter because it's not solid. It may break eventually but that'll be another 200k miles down the road.

Want to save money, go Dorman, biggest/best for the buck! Want best bar available then go to Summit and order the addco bars, you'll have to wait for a few weeks.

Done!

I have the GMPP bars front and back, installed along with moog end links and energy suspension poly bushings on the bars. But the rear needs more. I will probably upgrade to addco rear as it is the largest available.

Good luck!
