I just bought my GTP last night and i noticed today that the supercharger is making a little rattle noise, i work at a GM dealership and i had the engine guy listen to it today for me. He says its the 3 bushings inside the supercharger, is there ANYWHERE i can buy these?!

please help

Moved to the Tech lounge.....

which side of the blower is the noice coming from? the snout? or the main housing?

Well, there are the needle bearings in the case itself, you can get those from the vendors. Then there are the high speed bearings in the snout, then there is the coupler in the snout. In fact if you work at a dealership you should be able to get those yourself, if not then they can be purchased from one of the vendors. Just make sure the bearings, particularly those in the snout are high speed bearings.

A common issue with the blowers is that the coupler will go bad and it will sound like little rocks tumbling around in the blower.

If you just bought it, I would have them do the repair with a fresh new rebuild from Magnuson on their dime.

If they don't want to, about a $30.00 coupler is most likely all you need. (but don't tell them thats whats wrong see if you can get a fresh new/rebuilt supercharger out of the deal. :th_thumbsup-wink:

Alright thanks for the info guys...

yeah i would do that except when i say i just got it, i mean i bought it from a guy that lives 30 mins away and it has 102,000 miles haha

im going to start with the coupler and go from there, praying it is just that

Its not coming from the very end where the pulley is, but just where it starts to get wider, like if you have your cover on, right at the edge of that.

im really hoping its just a coupler...

Yeah i ordered the ZZP coupler last night, so i should have it installed by next week, ill see how it goes. thanks for the advice

could / did you feel slop in the coupler before taking it apart? I've got all the stuff to do this, and will over the weekend, but in the past I've rolled the SC pulley back and forth and don't feel a lot of play.

I am going through that with mine right know and it has about 1/4 inch of play back and forth. Maybe not quite that much, but you can feel it pretty good.

When i took the snout off, the coupler literally slid off the posts, thats how loose it had gotten...you could just easily slide it on and off....the new one, i had to tap it on there with a hammer. i guess it should be really tight. it was really easy to do, took like 30 mins tops

well, I'm assuming that it's my coupler making the noise --- it's coming from the right spot, goes away when the SC belt is off and the car has 121K on it. As I say, it doesn't have much if any play I can feel but I can't imagine what else the noise can be.

I can guarantee it'll take me longer than 30 minutes, but I'm not in much of a rush and like to look around when doing a new, to me, job such as this.

UNder acceleration, I don't hear it with the s/c having a load on it, but once I get to my cruising speed I can hear it if I listen for it.

I hear people saying it can be difficult to find these parts, but why is it that you can't just walk into a GM dealership and have them order the parts - or is it that they are killer expensive at dealers?

Also, -

How common is it for these things to go out, and what is the typical mileage point at which it happens? I am at 50k on a 04... no noises, but just wondering if there is a certain point where I should anticipate this repair.
