supercharger installation

Hey dnt mean to sound like a complete idiot but i recently purchased an 01 grand prix gt and my good friend gave me his supercharger from a buick regal. i was wondering if this will work. im very new to american cars ive been into the import scene my whole life just got out the nissan and honda game. i would appreciate any suggestions or answers thank u

you cannot just bolt up the blower, you need an abundance of parts such as heads, lower intake manifold, throttle body, balancer, idler pulleys, custom pcm fuel rails and injectors as well as all the gaskets from a supercharged 3800 aka the L67

there is an easier swap kit which i run on my car which consists of a modified blower and lower intake manifold, custom pcm, custom fuel logs which will allow you to use your existing non supercharged 3800 aka L36,

the first choice is cheaper and more work, the second choice is more expensive with less work

thanks 4 the feedback! but that kit ur using for ur 3800 is it ur own custom kit or is there anywhere i might be able to purchase a kit like this.? and is it true the tranny on the gt wont hold da power once da supercharger is in?

Read a lot about the ZZP SSM90 kit before you buy.

Then read even more. I've heard of a few stories lately about the kits and suggest you research the product thoroughly.

Thanks to everyone! ur reply's have really been helpful. ima do my research and see cuz it would be a shame to not use a perfectly good supercharger which i received for free.

about the tranny.........if you are going to use all of the power often, it probably wont hold, if you baby it who knows how long it will last.........this depends on your driving habits and maintenance habits. I would not use zzp's SSM90 kit as it includes their PCM........DO NOT BUY A ZZP PCM under any circumstances as they have been known to blow several peoples motors on here by pushing the envelope too much on the SC'ed cars....look around on this forum, you will see!! Also, for a lot of information you should read about what supporting mods you will need for this...........go to the general tech section and read the "safely modding your 3800" thread. Have fun researching and dont be afraid to ask questions about this after reading those threads........

Thanks dat kit sounded a lil to good to be true bro, my final question is. is it possible to make my gt fast all motor. or is superchargers da only thing that make these cars move. cuz i man im not tryin to be da faastest thing on earth i just want reasonable power.

you can make your gt faster it just wont be GTP fast...........if that makes any sense. You should read the safely modding your 3800 thread in the general tech section for in depth info on this................basically to upgrade HP you need to start with a downpipe, powerlog(plog), fenderwell intake(FWI), a tune and a HV3. These are all pretty basic to install. One more performance mod that would really wake your car up would be roller rockers depending on how far you want to go. A tune helps out a lot..........no matter what setup you have stock or highly modded. Read that thread and then ask if you have any more questions.......

you could turbo it instead. i don't have any real knowledge on it but you might want to look into it. one thing that nobody's said and idk if you realize is that the gt and the gtp's have different gears which is another reason you would want a different transmission. i've heard doing a whole L67/trans swap is easier and could be cheaper, just good luck finding one. but yeah, as it sits now, the supercharger is about useless. props on moving onto american cars. just please mod it right lol.

The lower gears is not what is wrong with the gt trans. It is the none h-d differential. You can use a gt trans with a top swap. Bio had a alky 3.2 setup and still ran a gt trans. You just can't be stupid and burn out around corners and **** all day.

the non hd diff means just about nothing unless youre doing burnouts or going around corners and getting into the throttle hard. straight line action and hard launches will not hurt it at all.

no, what i meant was the acceleartion and top speed specs are gonna be different. a gt with a top swap and the original transmission should top out a lot earlier than a gtp with it's original trans. unless i'm totally missing something? i'm sure there's a lot i don't know about.

No...you are...the gearing in these cars, even the 3.29's...your never going to top it out because it'll run out of torque way before you can peg the gear.

what about starting off? anything noticable from off the line? i've never actually driven a gtp, i'm not sure how different it actually is

a car with 3.29s versus a car with 2.93s with both the same amount of mods and exactly everything the same the 3.29 car should walk the 2.93 car.

a top swap doesn't make an L67 though does it? i know the two have different compression ratios, does that carry over or does the switch change everything?
