Sunroof & Hood Liner (Pics & Video)

First off, the sunroof. It'll tilt up, but it won't slide out, it just makes a really wierd noise. I can't tell if it's the motor because it sounds like it's trying. Here's a video so you can hear what I'm talking about:


And then the hood line: part of it tore off, not sure how, what should I use to stick it back on? Here's a pic:

Your worm drive cables/ gears are stripped. Unfortunately you will need a whole new sunroof unit as no one sells the parts, and it doesnt come apart anyways.

For the headliner, some spray adhesive and you are missing the trim ring that goes around the sunroof.

Where can I get a cheap replacement sunroof? I'd prefer a kit from a 99+ as long as it'll fit, the glass was thicker and it slid out differently.

Yes I would look for a OEM sunroof, 99+, because that sunroof you have in there looks to be aftermarket. Email Ed Morad...

Aftermarket? Maybe the original one broke too. Yeah I'll email him and get a price, I want a new one before summer. Will the 99+ fit in the 98?

Yeah that switch and sunroof you have does not look original. Ive heard numerous times that the 99+ sunroof is a different/better design. I havent seen info to back it up, but I would try to find the newest roof possible.

Yeah it is, but it'll fit right? The openings are the same size?

Ehh its not guaranteed. Aftermarket roofs vary in size, so Im not sure. Id measure my roof for you, but my car is in storage for a few more weeks....

Well nawarkk just measured his 99 sunroof for me and it was MUCH bigger than my 1998, so I'm not sure what to do now.

I don't think you can guarantee fit between OEM and Aftermarket, if you can pull down the headliner check to see who made it.

Also factory sunroofs have a valley in the roof with drain tubes that run down the pillars like gutters on your house...I dont know how youd make a factory roof work man, honestly...

Theres a guy on one of the GP forums who cut a whole roof out of a donor GP at the pillars and welded it onto his GP, then dropped a factory glass in the sunroof hole.


I doubt youd be willing to go that far though.

Yeah lol at that point I'd drop in the panoramic vista roof from the G6 :th_thumbsup-wink:

Yeah I think I'm gonna go look around the yard in a few. I'll bring a tape measurer and see what I can do.
