Summer Tires

Alright so I'm in the market for summer tires now. These will be strictly summer and switched off with my winters. I realize there's a lot of these types of threads but I'd like opinions of the type I'm looking for. Looking for ones that have real good grip, a stiffer side wall, pretty good tread life, and can handle good in the rain. We can get a lot of rain here sometimes and real good puddles in the road. I don't want to lose control in those situations. Price range preferably under $200 each more around $150-$170. These could be for either stock 16's or possible GTX rims. And I think I'd want to get them slightly wider than stock like 235 instead of 225 for that much better grip/handling.

235/60/16 is pretty limited on what you want.

And just to be clear, great grip + stiffer sidewall + high performance = low tread life.

In the stock size, look at some firehawk wideoval AS for nice grip and great summer traction.

The Advan Envirgor tires are nice too for summer. Maybe even some hankook ventus tires.

Thanks I'll give those a look. When you say low tread life how many miles are you talking? I put less than 10k on my car a year so it'd be even less than that in the summer time.

20-35k.

Like anything under a 300 tread rating won't last for beans and will turn rock hard after half tread.

At my work we sell a 40k tire with a rating of like 400-420 for regular passenger vehicles, you'd be lucky to reach that 40k unless you only drove freeway. So figure anything 400+ will get you many summers.

i went with Michelin Pilot Super Sports...we shall see how these work. A lot of ratings and reviews said they were a decent tire. I cant really say much about them except what I read from tests and reviews.

that extra 10mm of width isn't going to help you with traction.

either get a 225 or get a 245(/50R16).

i doubt it. and if you're worried about it get under your car and measure.

or just get the standard size and be done with it.

Could I get away with 225/55/16? All that means is the sidewall will be a little shorter right? That won'y throw the speedo or anything off too much i imagine.

alright. The tires I've found that I like don't come in 225/60 only 225/55 which is why I asked. Might just end up going with the GTX rims I have since they come in that size.

Ok so here's the list I've come up with of tires that I've liked. If anyone has any input I'd appreciate it before I order them. Otherwise I'm leaning towards the Dunlop Direzzas.

-Falken FK-452 100W BSW
-General Tire Altimax HP 100H BSW
-Yokohama Avid Envigor 100H BW
-Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110
-Dunlop Direzza DZ102 (these are 225/55/16)

FFDP, I know you said the 225/55 would look dumb but can it really look that much different? If you know of a picture of a GP that has them I'd like to see it. Otherwise I think it's close enough I'd go with those.

It'll look ****ing stupid. On 225/55/16 the tire is almost an inch shorter than stock. You want less sidewall get bigger wheels, like a lightweight 17''.

don't mess with sidewall heights. seriously, leave them alone.

get the standard 225/60/16 and be done with it. it's not worth debating anymore.

Alright so I'll skip those cause you guys no what you're talking about better than I do. Out of the other ones I listed all being 225/60/16 do you guys have any input on those? I'm basically a complete novice when it comes to picking out tires. If you guys see one that has a nice tread pattern that would have better grip out of the ones I've listed let me know. Otherwise I'm just gonna pick one and hope for the best.

I had the Hankook myself and loved them I out about 15k on them before I popped 2 of them and still had a bit of life left. I will be going back to them when I need tires again.

the falken's wear fast. they're pretty soft.

out of those i would personally lean towards the general, but the hankook or yokohama may be your best all around bet.

hankooks dont come in 225/60/16 iirc, generals have soft sidewall if it bother you, envigors are a decent tire, falkens like bio said will wear fast. youve got a GT, any all season tire should be plenty imho.
