Subway's GT: Time to close my legs, it smells everywhere

Re: Subway's GT: Big Plans

i know them springs they are for your cup holder. when you pull it out them speings help pulling back in

Ohhhhhh, then that explains why when prying on the cup holders to get the bezel out, I heard things falling. The cupholder still works fine, so I won't bother putting them in. Only when the thing starts acting goofy then I will.

Re: Subway's GT: Big Plans

Well, this sway bar replacement turned into the biggest pain in the ass I've had to deal with to date on this car. Instead of this being an easy project, it was an over 4 hour project -______-. Getting the bolts and sh*t out wasn't hard. Both end links snapped off as soon as the breaker bar was used xD. Not a big deal, but now the fun begins. Get everything holding the bar down out and now it's just wobbling in there. Go to pull it out, it starts getting stuck. So I try twisting it in different directions and stuff, but nope! It would not come out no matter what direction you twisted it. So that left me with one of two solutions at the time. 1, cut like 8" off one end and pull the old bar out. 2, leave it in there and just bolt the new end links and bushings to it and try again when I had more time. At this point, my brother and dad were helping me. So I went with option number 1. Went to get a saw zaw from my neighbors house and brought it back. But before we started cutting, we gave it one more go. We got it to the same position it kept getting stuck at, and realized it was like 1/2 inch from getting free. So being extremely frustrated, we just hammered the bar the rest of the way out. Not caring what was in the way. (The down pipe was in the way and would not let it out). Well, we got it out after using a ****ing sledge hammer. And guess what, the new bar is bigger than the old one, so it was gonna be even more difficult to get into place. And indeed it was. (Dropping the subframe was not an option as it would take too much time). We freaking hammered that thing until it finally went into place. And there was some plastic clip that brake while hammering. Kind of looked like a clip to hold a fuel or brake line into place. Who cares at this point. So then I loosely put the end links in place to get the bar in the correct position to put the mount bushing on. So I got the driver side on, but then the passenger side would not line up. Now I was damn near ready to burn my car. So I tried drilling the holes bigger in the mount, but it dint do much. I had to go to work soon, so I got the one bolt inI could, and cross threaded in the other. So that one is sticking life halfway out. But it is all back together, but I have not driven it yet. Tomorrow I will do that. I might remove the end links and get the bar postponed so that the frame bushings will line up properly, but not sure if that one bolt will thread in normally anymore.

Then when I finished, I had to go to work in 30 minutes. So I was rushing through the whole thing.

Re: Subway's GT: Big Plans

i quit reading at hammer lol drop the sub frame already. good grief...... did you not say this would be cake?

Re: Subway's GT: Big Plans

I knew you wouldn't read the whole thing... lol. Dropping the subframe would've taken more time then sledging it out.

Re: Subway's GT: Maintenance

if you did drop it you'd be thanking me now instead of it not being done. just saying :th_tongue2:

Re: Subway's GT: Big Plans

The thing to do is to not read interwebz first, lol. I did, and expected to have to drop the subframe. Wasn't necessary, the new fat bar went right in once my assistant and I coordinated and found the right routing. In auto repair the answer is rarely hammer but often slowing down and thinking harder. Fix those threads right or regret it long time. When I have a simple task explode into an issue-fest like this, I switch to mental granny gear, ignore time limits, and attack the issues in a purposeful order while talking myself through it. As soon as you had crossed threads and ran short on time, you should have aborted the mission and went to work bar-less. Obviously you'll know to dedicate more time to what you have to do now, just approach it calmly.

Re: Subway's GT: Maintenance

Meh

this is why when I had the cradle out for the the 5th time in 6 years , i re did my steering rack and my sway bar/ bushings for the second just cause

Re: Subway's GT: Big Plans

Oh and when I first bought my regal I did the GMPP kit and didn't touch the cradle. As I told you before , the hardest part at the time was getting the bolts off the bushing plates. Very small turns with a box wrench was annoying

Re: Subway's GT: Maintenance

Well this morning I went back at it. I took off both end links so the bar could move freely and then positioned it better so the bracket lined up. Got both subframe bracket bushings in. The one bolt was still a bit crooked, but I was able to screw it all the way down. Everything is good now, and it handles much better than before.

Re: Subway's GT: Maintenance

My brother and I had a real trial getting our Regal swaybar on too (was the solid Dorman one), must have spent a solid 4 hours on it as well, and lots of hammer beating and re-arranging the position. :P

YES!! It was such a pain. I will never do one again lol.

Re: Subway's GT: Maintenance

And I already did a LIM with no issues. So removing the heads and exhaust manifold is the only thing I haven't done yet. And that's straightforward. And those will come out easily because there's nothing in the way for them not to come out.

Re: Subway's GT: Maintenance

You'll see, I'll prove all you guys that I can do a top swap. And you guys will be like "wow, I never thought he'd be able to do it."

Re: Subway's GT: Maintenance

Or why the car idles funny, or why it smokes, wot hesitation, rockers making clanking noises, wheres my socket??!

Atleast you have a 6000 page top swap thread to read so 0 questions should be asked or else ban hammer ensues.
