• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

stopping power= installed

....given there are two pistons instead of one...they are half as small as the single piston in the stock brakes it take the same amount of force to extend 2 pistons that equate to the size of a bigger single....and you get more pad and the pressure is now more evenly distributed on the pad which results in better bite and more stopping power :)...the only thing that has changed is more volume in the caliper which means more fluid thats all.....pads and rotors last longer now too as leverage is gained from the bigger rotors and you also decrease brake fade.....

If you need more fluid then your pressure will be lower because the ratio between the master cylinder and the pistons will also be lower.

HowStuffWorks "Brakes: Leverage and Hydraulics"

You get more force but you have to push further to get it.

I could get technical, but I've seen it end not so well. :th_thumbsup-wink:

Edit: Semi-latice wheels, ones with three main spokes and three smaller ones off of that, do they have the clearance for the 12" upgrade?

per sq in? yea i agree. but wouldn't you need less lb/in2 due to the increased surface area? it would require less work from the piston because there is more pad to stop the rotational force of the rotor? or am i looking at it backwards?

Pressure is what I'm calling the total force applied by the slave piston. I'm not refering to pressure/sq in on the slave piston.

ahh ok. i wasn't looking at the same force you were. haha. yea i agree. is it a major issue with switching to F body brakes on GP's?

some report its better, some report its no difference etc etc.

Best upgrade is probably just up to 12" rotors and get some decent pads.

i'll try the one's out i have now, and see how they are. if there's no real danger of blowing out a line or something like that. if not, where do you get the 12" rotors and i take it you have to change the caliper mount, correct?

Ha, theres no risk of anything that crazy unless you're in need of new brake lines anyways.

Ask for the front rotors off of an 02 SS Camaro, or if you don't want to answer any questions an 03 monte carlo SS should have the same rotors.

Caliper mount is all you have to change, besides the rotor of course. :D

Sweet. I've been lookin into doin this. Sounds like a worth while investment. By they way, boostjunkie, car looks good bro. I like the rotor upgrade. Uve been doin a bunch to that car lately

More surface area means you have to push further to get that same amount of pressure.

and once youve pushed to that "farther" point you get more stopping power with the cost of more pedal travel.....thats why people complain about a slightly spongy pedal feel but if you bleed it real good you can hardly notice it...i dont but when looking at cost the 12" upgrade is also a great alternative with a great feeling left in your wallet.... i just prefer the look and power of the fbody setup i see the physics you mentioned but if the only thing i have to give up is pedal travel at a minimal amount ill take it :D not sayin the 12 inch doesnt make a huge diff i just argue the f-bodys do the same and more....someone shoudl test stopping distance with both setups to clarify but there would be alot of variables liek suspension age....i think maybe why i noticed a huge diff is my car got lowered 2 inches and got huge brakes in the same week....good bite with less suspension nose dive on stopping = black eyes on the windshield lol

haha thanks i try....making 13.00$ and hour at 35 hours a week with a 1 year old and fiance....id say im doing alright haha i wish i had a better job this thing would be a rocket by now ....my mod list would consist of built tranny and turbo or a build very similar to bluegtp91

thanks guys, been helpful. i too am on a budget, boost junkie, so i know how it feels. i went from a good paying job to a less paying job due to a layoff. i got a mod list too! haha. cars look great guys.

Holy ****, does your fiance work too? Bubba, you have done something amazing to have your car as well worked as you do on that budget, let alone with a 1 year old. :th_thumb-up: :th_beer-toast1:

You've also got a 69 Camaro to take care of... :D

you got that right! i've put that on the back burner for waaayyy too long. it's almost ready for paint stripping and new body panels. it's a pretty solid car. got all the suspension done last year, and installing a 5 speed this winter. i got bit by the sportbike bug too. haha.

Awesome man! What model/engine?

Damn!!! You guys are getting amazing deals on this crap... I need some brake upgrades fast.... My car stops like $#!T. Do i remember something about the holes needing retapped, or are the Fbody brackets just a direct bolt on?

You have to drill and tap the brackets so you can use the 14mm bolt that the grand prix uses. Ill see if the yard has another set if you are interested.
