Speaker issues

So when I bought my car it didn't have a radio but somewhere along the line of ownership someone had installed a 480 watt 4-channel Pioneer amp. So last night my friend gave me his factory head unit because he got a new one and we decided to put it in. The car at one point had an aftermarket headunit in it because it had the adapter on that black wire (the one that just plugs in with the male end on it). Anyway I figured that out after my friends tried to just jam the end into the head unit for 10 minutes.

So we get everything plugged in and his head unit still works and everything. Except for one thing, there is no music coming from any of the speakers.

Question is could the speakers all be disconnected or is it amp related? The thing is that I still need to get the RCA plug in for the amp to power the speakers in the first place but could not having that make it so the speakers work at all? I would think that it would still work even without having the RCAs for the amp plugged in. Also what else do I need to wire in to make the amp work besides the RCAs and the amp to the battery and the ground?

Anyway any ideas?

sounds like you have no speaker wiring from head unit to amp, thus the RCA cable. Previous owner probably had an aftermarket HU installed, now if you were to do the same then plug in RCA from HU to amp you should have sound, if the amp is any good that is, am I making sense?

So are you saying to get that little female end adapter for the RCA and then to wire it into my rear speaker wiring as to be able to plug in the RCAs? Then everything should work after that point theoretically?
 
No, RCA connects HU to Amp but only with aftermarket HU not stock, unless you use a line out converter from speaker outputs of HU to RCA input of amp. speakers should be wired to output of amp, these should be screw terminals on the amp.
 
save yaself a headache and get an aftermarket hu.... the highs are wired directly to the amp.. another hu.. plug up power remote ground and rca cables should have music

Yeah thats what I meant where you wire in the line out converter to the speaker wires coming off the head unit. The speakers are already wired to the amp. So after getting the lineout converter and installing it I should have sound?

I would get an aftermarket HU but thats out of my price range right now and that would be a pain in the butt in itself to put in.

It's actually not as difficult as you think.
 
So I picked up a line out converter from Best Buy today and it came with 6 wires out the back. I know that four are stereo hook ups and then it has two more for stereo minus? What wire(s) is the stereo minus? Might be a few days before I actually get the music bumping because I found some gashes in my trunk trim and my trunk is actually soaked and there is some condensation on the lid of the trunk. So I figured wiring it up and trying to turn it on with the amp and wiring possibly being wet would be a terrible idea. So maybe tomorrow or sometime during the period of this week I will run down to my local yard and pull some trunk trim off another Grand Prix and a back bumper. Then pay one of my friends to vacuum out the trunk and get everything all nice and dried up. So hopefully I can start jamming out in the next week.
 
Im gonna hijack this for a thread or two, but I have an '08 GXP with Monsoon. Center is bad, got new polk to replace with but need to know as it cold here and Id rather not break plastic; Does the dash grille for the center just pop off or do you need to remove dash surround to release? Thanks
