I am a little new to the 3.8 V6's, as I have had a few 5.7 liter Vortec trucks, and a 4.3 liter V6 Blazer. I just bought a 98 GP GT with "motor issues". Previous owner replaced the intake gasket, and a week later the car shut down on him. The motor will crank, but not catch. I also just purchased a full 99 GP SE parts car, minus the hood, front bumper, passenger side headlight, and passeneger side fender incase i have to do a motor swap. My question is this, can i just swap on a metal Series III Intake Manifold, with the upgraded aluminum GM or Fel Pro gaskets to the Series II motor?

i imagine this would require alot more than just slapping it on, you would pretty much have to swap everything so ya ide figure out the problem first

there is no codes?

also intake gasket what are you referring to? tb gasket lim gasket exaust manifold gasket valve cover?

why did he do this?

are you getting fuel pressure?

whats your compression like?

are you getting spark?

also why did you buy a vehical that died on the owner after he obviously worked on the internal engine and had no idea wtf he was doing?

so if need be you want to know if you can ditch the plastic intake for the metal one, hv3 i think they call it.

yes you can, you need to keep the tb from the car tho, the newer one ( 04 and up) is dbw. and you may need a adapter plate to do it.

others will chime it to confirm this or say im wrong lol im more into the s/c engine as thats what i have.

Why did I buy the 98 GT with motor issues? Because the body is in excellent shape with good paint still, and I knew where a parts car was that I could get extremely cheap, as the shop needed it off the floor for other projects. If anything, I will just drop the complete motor/trans k members, and swap them.

thats the way to go. you can do it that way with out a lift too. dropping the engine and trans out the bottom that is, a lift will make you life real easy tho.
