series 2 vs series 3

alright, so i need a motor for my car, wired for series ii, i know the series iii is drive by wire and a few other things, but will the series 2 harness mate up to the series 3 motor? if so it would be alot smarter for me to buy a 2004 gtp for a winter car then rip the motor in the spring, opposed to getting a jy motor and having to rebuild for piece of mind

Series III block is the same as the Series II block, in a nutshell.

Why don't you scrap the Sunflower and keep the GTP?

the gtp is **** lol, 113,xxx miles up here in canada is alot, cause salted roads cars rust fast, its burnt orange with black doors... lol, so esentially if i change the throttle linkage i can drop and bolt up and extra 20hp without doing anything? lol

If you bought an 04 GTP, you'd get the newer slightly more efficient blower. Below that, nearly everything is the same long block wise.
You'd swap over exhaust, ac bracket, diff to engine bracket and alt bracket if needed. Keep the aluminum pan and it's much better mount. Use a TB adapter to adapt from Gen V M90 to your current TB driven by a cable.

so basically, i can swap the motor, use my series 2 wiring harness and just put on my TB and it will work?

Throttle body adapters look like this. I sell for $90 including shipping (USA). Canada a little more. PCV works with this adapter.

No, no it's not. It's also the least useful measurement of the condition of a vehicle.

Bill's got you covered with the whole every 3800 SII+ is basically the same thing.

It's never smart to simply rebuild a 3800. Both you and the shop doing the work should understand the implications of the magical 1000 mile motor. Generally speaking, it's around a grand in machine work.

It'd be smarter to buy the GTP for a winter car, and buy a used L36/L26 block for your project. Open it up and comb over it. If there's sludge, send it back for another. Standard had 10 of them for $400 a pop a couple years ago when I needed a motor. The price has likely gone down since then. That is unless you plan on buying another winter car next year.

didnt really mean full rebuild, mainly gaskets, rockers, cam headers, i just aquired a 2005 n/a s3 grand prix, and meh mileage isnt really a factor if ther person had regular maintenance, but we all know how rare that is, i can get a s2 s/c at a jy for $800 from a 2001 gtp, then id just do gaskets and bolt ons and a smaller pulley, now that being said, s2 with gen v blower or s3? ;) what do you guys suggest, and matt you should know that finding a car with 160,xxx km is hard if youre in ontarion, any other province is good because nobody else uses salt on the roads

id be origional by maybe doing the same motor build as someone so i know what to follow along with, but different/unsuspecting by having it stuffed into a sunfire ;)

thanks guys, this is my first l67 motor so ill be asking LOTS of questions, but thats how i learnt alot about stereos and competitions, and now people come to me, last year in college i did 3 setups in the parking lot in fall/winter haha

LIM gaskets, rocker gaskets and coolant elbows should all be new if you're putting another engine in. No point in screwing around with those.

Pop the oil filler cap, if it's clean, it's likely good to go.

Gen V blower is something you might as well get over with now. The gen III rotor coatings suck.

I don't know what you're talking about with mileage. My buddy's car from 1985 is likely cleaner than most of the stuff here on GPF. It has 260 000 KM on it.

Mine has 140K and has no rust whatsoever. 2001. But I'm sure you can find many pickups from 2005-2010 that need brake lines, bumpers and fenders rotting off etc at similar mileage. I know I've seen a few in the shop in that exact condition. Half the battle is what quality materials the vehicle was put together with. The other half is maintenance.

If you're talking about 04-08 GPs, they're typically pretty resilient to rust. The only real issues are the headlights and the clear coat falling off. Doesn't mean they're pristine underneath though, but nothing will be.

Just because I needed a break from cleaning the garage:

$4000 for an M112 car.

240 000 KM, looks pretty good from the pictures. Already had the brake/fuel lines done. Hopefully they were done correctly.

Not bad

This guy is out there though, 316 500 km, asking 3500.

"Modded" but doesn't list specifics.

Would not buy simply because the pictures are sideways. Anyways, rocker panels already replaced. First thing to do would be find the shop that did it, then ask to see other work. Also inspect the quality of the work done on the car itself.

"But they said it was MINT!"

Here are the rot boxes:

Then you should also check out Autotrader. They tend to have a lot more of the dealer listings and arguably overpriced cars.

Well this might be pretty:

http://wwwa.autotrader.ca/a/Pontiac...084062_/?ursrc=pl&urp=1&urm=4&showcpo=ShowCPO

This car doesn't seem to have any tell tale signs of use other than the mileage and the drivers seat. Radio controls and DIC controls all look relatively good, at least from the pictures.

Also take that bluenick, $41 385 for a Grand Prix.

$13K for a GP anyone?

http://wwwa.autotrader.ca/a/Pontiac...40317134051989/?showcpo=ShowCPO&orup=5_15_137

Another GXP, 130K on it, asking 10.

http://wwwa.autotrader.ca/a/Pontiac...1119121715952/?showcpo=ShowCPO&orup=13_15_137

Moar GXP action, 152K asking 9.

http://wwwa.autotrader.ca/a/Pontiac...0220115026891/?showcpo=ShowCPO&orup=19_15_137

It's 8300 for a 2006 GT with 135K.

There's also a bunch of L26 powered cars with under 100K on them for sale on autotrader.

So what were you after again?

Also since the engine is out, it's cam time. Also pop the heads off and clean up the castings a la:

are you in ontario? have you seen a car thats like 15 years old winter driven with no undercoat? lol most are pretty hagred

the reason i said rockers cam headers, etc is cause i want a little more hp but no full rebuild, if the rockers are good sure, it would be a good motor to swap and just drive but im looking for a little more than just slam it in and drive
