I am for seatbelts but against the law itself. Same with helmet laws for motorcycles. I don't want the government meddling in my business. I know that seatbelts and helmets save lives, I don't want to get it trouble if I choose to not wear one. I do think that minors should be required to wear one at all times.

Agreed. Today seat belts, tomorrow fatty food. NYC is already on that path.
Intrusive unconstitutional government actions have to be stopped cold. Otherwise they continue until they're in our houses setting our thermostats.

i pretty much hate all petty government laws its not the land of the free when they take every thing away

Amen.

i think it should be a law in which a fine can only be imposed if the driver already did something to warrant getting flicked. not wearing a seatbelt shouldn't be reason enough to pull someone over, but if they get into an accident/any other moving violation, then the seat belt law should be able to come into play.

i don't think it's right that there's "seat belt zones" where the fines double and all that bs either.

This is how most seat belt laws got their foot in the door.
They were "secondary" laws, meaning the cops had to have a primary reason to stop, like speeding, running stop sign, weaving, etc.

As with all slippery slopes, now the seat belt laws are primary.

The IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD laws hark back to The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions.

once again, it is a known fact that seatbelts save lives. what's your guys' opinions on the ethics of forcing people to take measures to protect themselves?

Consider the ethics of people who pass the laws and typically exempt themselves from those same laws that apply to the common taxpaying swine.

A nanny government knows no boundaries. FOR YOUR OWN GOOD laws are an endless slippery slop where freedom slides away.

How about requiring everyone to own a firearm, after all MORE GUNS LESS CRIME. So with more people able to defend themselves, it stands to reason people would be safer.
Therefore, I am advocating for gun ownership laws. It will make civilization more polite and safe.
