s/c and turbo

Wanting to do a build on my car and ahve heard people doing a supercharger and turbo build what are the benefits of this cons and or thoughts on this kind of build
 


I've heard it's harder to tune. I think it would be better to just turbo it if that's what you are looking to do.
 
You will never be able to make a higher horse power twincharged 3800 than you could on either S/C or Turbo alone.

The S/C rotors become a restriction for the turbo.
 
too bad you cant rig the BBV to open under boost from the turbo. then you can open up and make the BBV larger.

but like said i think it would be easier to make more power on a turbo alone or a bigger SC. going "twin-charge" as its called isnt as efficient and your adding the extra weight of both systems. also its easier to cool a turbo setup via Air-to-air Intercoolers and larger Air to water. vs trying to squeeze an IC under a SC.


i think the idea is cool and i would love to do it. but besides being different i dont see a reason for it. if your wanting power there are better ways to get it.
 


haha thanks i had heard from a couple of people that the supercharger was awesome when it comes to launching then when the turbo spools it takes off but if the supercharger is like a restrictore ill just plan on the turbo set up and sell the rest for some extra cash
 


You like have to buy two of everything? You like the weight? You like having to tune the damn things worrying about spool sync....big single>tt anyday

A properly sized turbo wont have much lag
 
actually the perfect setup is a small and large turbo. just a pain to deal w/

the small one spools faster so you can boost sooner and the large can push the numbers extremely high

Do you even know what you are talking about? Spool sync? What the hell?

Also 2 smaller turbos is much more streetable than one big ass turbo.
 


The sc does not become a restriction. You just have a lot more to deal with, ideally an a/a intercooler, a a/w intercooler, a supercharger, a turbo is hard to fit, costs more and you have a couple more points of possible failure. Really the turbo lag saves the trans most of the time.
 
The supercharger is not a restriction. Twin-charged is a better option for the street, and will perform equally or better at the track depending on the setup. When done right, there is zero lag anywhere in the rpm and gear ranges. The power is always constant and never lets up in the higher ranges.

It will be more expensive and complicated to install, but will not require any more or different tuning than turbo only. I run a full water-air intercooler setup which I think performs better on the street. I have a core after the turbo, and another core under the supercharger.

The primary reason to go twin-charged is to run a larger turbo like a 70 or 72. Running anything smaller defeats the purpose of the supercharger as the lag will probably be acceptable. If you want a low 11's or 10 second car that performs on the street, you might consider twin-charging. Of course, at that level you will need a fully built trans with 1" chain, so consider that in the budget.
