Rust

Ya I kinda got off topic but, the rockers on mine are pretty good for having 250,000 miles on it! I would almost pay to see one as nice as mine with that high of miles. But yes, The Grand Prix years 97-03 rot out in the rocker panel area. Btw and this is also off topic but the other day, before the snow, I got her up to 110 mph on the highway! Lol good engine

Some dealers will offer undercoating services, maybe they paid for something like that. Or, check your vin to make sure. Well you said it was passed down, but still: http://www.grandprixforums.net/showthread.php?t=67004&p=1130627&viewfull=1#post1130627

Well you're making some big claims, lets see some pics lol. Like this: Undercoated. Still have some areas to touch up, but looks pretty good for the conditions I applied it in. This is 11 years in michigan.

The undercarriage was light blue from the factory. All of the stuff you are seeing on it is just dirt, not areas where undercoating is missing or anything like that. The only parts missing undercoating are the rockers, it must have come off. I'm hoping to clean and re-spray before winter.

Well, and no disrespect, but mine has been in 13 michigan winters, has 251,000 ( just rolled yesterday ) when yours has been through 11, has 112,000 miles ( or somewhere around that ) so it's kinda hard to compare the two :/

The only rust my Grand Prix has is on the rockers, and it's not surface rust!!! Lol but everywhere else is absolutely spotless :)

Oh okay, so you're saying the whole car except for the rockers is nearly rust free, but the rockers are completely destroyed. Well get some new rockers and you'll have a rust free car. Do you have any rust bubbling at the bottom on your trunk lid? That's the only rust on the body of my car.

Nah, they're about $100 a piece. Just gotta cut and weld yourself.

And what do you mean, you trunk lid had rust, then you got rid of it? You got rid of the rust, the trunk lid, or the car? lol
I was thinking of trying to fix mine next summer, I fixed a bunch of little spots already with touch up, but the trunk lid may have some metal missing.

Just go on rockauto, go through and select your car, and search rocker panel. There will be a category it should take you to, for 2 door and 4 door cars.

I'm afraid if I scrape the rust, it will leave a chunk missing unlike everywhere else so far that has just been surface rust(like the wheel wells an a few stone chips)

Here was surface rust that was easily "fixable"

Your car looks very nice and not a lot of rust! I bought mine from my grandparents with 247,000 for only 300$$$ lol I'm lucky and I can't really complain!

Yeah thanks. Not bad for a first car. I'm glad the interior is as nice as the exterior, not many flaws about it to bug me. Does yours have an original engine or trans? I would have considered buying a high mileage GP that still looked nice for a much lower price, and fixed things on my own.

Well if there's nothing really wrong with it, to be fair, the rockers (as far as I know) are not needed necessarily. It's not like the car is going to fall apart or anything.
