'Rubbing' Noise when Backing Up

For some reason, when I am backing up, if I go anything but a very slow speed I hear what sounds like (not saying it is) rubbing noise like a tire rubbing somewhere. I don't know what is causing it, and can't seem to track it down. It doesn't seem to matter if I am backing up straight, or if the wheel is turned, but if I back up my 2000 GTP and press the accelerator pretty much at all, it will make the noise. If I just let it back up without pressing the accelerator, it doesn't make the noise because it is a slower speed.

What could I check?

I hear the ABS sensor some times right after starting the car where it makes a noise for a second or something, but the noise I am talking about is a little louder, and it does it any time that I put the vehicle in reverse and give it some gas. I can sustain the noise in reverse too...

I bet its your downpipe rubbing the floorboard. Very common for many different aftermarket downpipes. That or the downpipe hitting the sway bar if its not flipped, another common issues. I'd check those areas real well, maybe put some odd color touch up paint in the suspected areas and see if it rubs off.

When you put your car in R, the engine/tranny/downpipe shift towards the floor board. In D it shifts away from the floor board...

My 02 sensor was hitting mine. I just took a air hammer to the floor and made some room. It is not even noticeable from the inside.

I've had this noise since before any mods as well. Same noise with and without my mod list, so it doesn't seem to be related directly to the mods. Oh, and yup, I got the front sway bar "flipped" when I put it in so that it has more clearance around the 3" downpipe.

I may have to have my wife in the car, and me outside of it to try to pinpoint it better, but I am fairly certain that it is something rubbing due to the engine movement when in reverse like Shawn mentions above, but I am just confused as to what is causing it both before and after the mods and if there is something that needs to be corrected, or just dealt with.

I'm having the same issue! but i can only definitely reproduce it when the wheel is turned to the right. only sometimes does it happen going straight. I think in my situation its a downpipe issue because I just had a 3" downpipe put on. What is the idea with flipping the front sway bar?
