Rocker Question

I emailed ZZP about the best springs to run with the 1.9 modified rockers(with their PCM tune-higher shift points-) and they said stock springs are fine. Can I get away with the stock springs with the higher shift points? The car hardly sees those high rpms though. It would be nice to save a lil and maybe get a scangage er something. But not if it is a huge risk to the motor.

Why do things half ass? If its just a daily driver , why bother changing the rockers out then?
The springs compliment the rockers. The rockers compliment high rpms.
Driving around 1-3k rpm you won't notice anything

Do it right and get springs , retainers , re usable rocker bolts, thread lock and new valve seals. You won't have to touch that part of your motor again.

Most get away with stock springs fine. I have heard of a few that had problems. I just installed rockers myself and went with l76 springs. They are cheaper and are more than enough for just rockers. If you get springs make sure you get the right retainers too.

when I did my er rockers, kept getting the advice to do springs as well, did I? nope and don't care

Mileage, age etc all factor into what your springs are likely going to handle. I've seen a lot of guys break a spring on the advice that they don't need to be changed. And yet..there's another whole group that didn't change and didn't have a problem.

The rub is.. what will your springs take and are you willing to bet your motor on the gamble. Because typically when a spring breaks, the valve drops into teh cylinder and gets hit by the piston. The results aren't often good....

As an installer, I refuse to install rockers or a cam w/o changing springs. I don't want to put a motor in for a guy because he took a chance on springs.
