Revving itself when driving

Hello there, I am new to the fourms. I have a question about my 2000 GT. When driving I've noticed that it will rev itself every 30 seconds or so. It will only rev maybe 300 rpms or so and it seems to happen no matter what rpm, it just spikes up. I put it in cruise the other day and it would still do it as I was cruising along. However the funny thing is that when I come to a complete stop the problem seems to go away. Any help would be great, thanks.

Unplug the MAF and drive around like that, see if the problem goes away. I had almost the same symptom and my MAF kicked the bucket.

I was getting the code for the first O2 sensor so I replaced it. I am thinking now it could be the torque converter because at times when I am coasting then press the gas it takes a few seconds for the transmission to engage. I can hear and feel when it does engage.

Before you put any money into it, just try my suggestion. You're describing part of the problem I had before it got worse. Just unplug the sensor and drive around for a day, see if it improves, if it doesnt improve then atleast you ruled that out.
