Resevoir for intercooler?

Hey guys I'm just curious what kind of resevoir, if any people are running with their fsic. I thought about buying the zzp t-fill but for 40$ I could just get a 97/98 Resevoir That's bigger and would probably work better. Thanks

i got a universal tank for like 8 bucks. drilled two 3/4 holes in the side, and used marine epoxy to seal them up. use a wood 3/4 bit, the flat blade type with the point in the middle. makes a perfect hole in the tank.

the tank i welded two bolts to my rad support and mounted the tank off them.

http://s1097.photobucket.com/user/scottydoggs/library/intercooler install?sort=3&page=1 all the pics i got from my install. if you got a frozen boost fmhe, id go and try to make the mounting bar in the pics. its capped off and has threads in the ends to bolt it between the rad support.

the bottom i took the nut clips off the hood support part that you need to cut off, drilled two mounting holes in the lower rad support, then had to cut a V a top the hole so the clip on nut would clip in place right, then bolted the bottom up flush. you dont want a buck tooth fmhe. first curb or parking block you come to will smash it for ya.

http://www.grandprixforums.net/threads/85993-How-to-install-your-WBS-Intercooler i loosely followed this thread.

if I was going to do another intercooler, and I may at some point, I would put the tank in the trunk and just run long lines.

another thing you could consider is getting a universal intercooler tank like Scott did, they also make fancy ones that will fit in front of your radiator.

I bought a 97/98 reservoir, and mounted it where it was intended, and didn't really like it because it wasn't that pretty and took a fair amount of space.

No benefit that I can think of, even your cars coolant system has a way to vent. You need to be able to vent so you can bleed off air in the lines

Ok thanks I've seen people do both. I know there's a benefit in a pressurized regular cooling system but I really didnt see the intercooler system getting up to 180+ degree temps

my fmhe has hardly gotten warmer then ambient temps. res is nice cause you can see the pump flowing the coolant. and as far as bleeding the system it makes things as easy as adding coolant and power to the pump. you want to fill the fmhe via the res so coolant is at the pump when you fire it up.

Ok and the bosch pump sucks in from the bottom and flows out the side right?

yes. if you look at my pics. kinda hard to tell by just looking i know. but the hoses from the ic core, one goes to the res top port the bottom port to the top of the fmhe, out the bottom of the fmhe it goes to the pump, from the pump it goes to the core.

it really dont matter what hose off the ic goes where in my eyes. what ever way they end up being is fine.

your gonna need a 90º elbow too to get down to the top port of the fmhe. its the only elbow i used, i used a hose connector cause i ran short on one hose. ( thats 6 inches off the res in the pics above.) i got it all used and ran the system in a different way then the last owner did. so i made due with what i had on hand.

Thanks for the awesome info Scotty. Looks like I'll be picking that Resevoir up instead of the zzp junk.

One last thing I thought of was using the washer fluid bottle since I never use it. That would also work if I set it up like your res right?

idk bout your tank, but mine is not air tight, its got a slip in neck. you want your res to be as high if not higher then the ic core too. so that washer tanks out just on that point.

that res does have a nipple tube off the bottom that needs to be sealed off too. i just pushed some epoxy in and a top the tube. been dry for 2 years now i think.

Awesome thank you Scotty for the help. I was also curious about people that put fans on they're heat exchangers. I've only seen it done a couple times so I kind of assume its not a noticeable gain or else more people would do it. If it matters the heat exchanger I will have will be the zzp one.

Well its 3" thick and I'm just unsure its close to 100+ degrees 5 months out of the year here and I think with that kind if temperature it would be prone to heat soack sitting in traffic all day.

it wont heat soak. it hits 90 here and on the hottest days its only as hot as out side air temps. the blower will still get way to hot to touch too. yet you can touch the ic core, that stays cooler then the blower does.

only meth has made the blower cooler.
