Rerouting Wires

I don't know if the Pontiac wiring was this screwed up to begin with, or if whoever pulled the engine before I bought the car needs to be smacked, but this is rediculous. There's a mass of wires between the engine and firewall with no heat shield, some running through and melted to the exhaust manifold and others resting on the valve cover. There's also wiring stretched tight against the underside of the engine and more resting against the belt.

I've already rerouted the spark plug wires, and I'm about ready to rewire the whole engine. I know people have rerouted for a cleaner look before, which is what I'm going for for now until I can afford performance mods, so if you guys could post some pictures of your reroutes along with some suggestions I'd appreciate it. I do want to clean up the appearance as much as possible, but keeping the wires from melting and/or shorting out is the first priority. Please help :th_sick2:.

Very nice, but he didn't finish, and the other side is what I'm more concerned with :th_angry2:. Also, no need to go that extreme. I'm fine with the placement of the battery and coil packs, just not the wires running over, under, and around the engine. It seems like I find a new wire melting every day.:(

he did finish. he has been driving his car for a while.

he just didnt take any pictures afterwards, which ruins it.

Didn't think so. Shouldn't be too much of a problem, but I'd like to clean up a bit while I'm at it of anyone's found some nifty way of doing things ;)
Need to make room for headers and keep wires off hot stuff :p

Forgive my ignorance of terminology for a moment, but there are two sensors on the exhaust, one near the downpipe and a second in the U-bend near the cat. The wire leading to this second sensor was wrapped completely around the exhaust and the heat shielding had melted.
I fixed it no problem, and fortunately the wires hadn't melted, BUT of the four wires leading into the connector the pink and purple wires were completely disconnected - even the pins were gone.

So... How important is this sensor, and if I plan on getting headers and going catless can it just be deleted?

Keep the first O2 sensor, that's the important one. The second just tell the PCM if the cat is working or not. Deleting it will throw a code but wont affect how the car runs.

Thanks, that's what I thought. To delete can I just cut the wires or do they need to be looped?
I can tune out the code when I get a new PCM, right?

You can leave the wires hanging or get an O2 sim like I did for a while and you can get any code tuned out.

Mine are cut because they didn't like being pinched in my header and decided to burn in half so I but them and they just hang there.

Deleting it will throw a code but wont affect how the car runs.

The car might not run correctly by just deleting the code that sets the check engine light. You might also have to change some other stuff in your file as far as turning the tests off and deleting the O2 out of the file.

So if I go catless and delete the O2 from the PCM, do I need to keep one O2 sensor to keep things running well (or a least use a simulator), or can both be deleted?

You need the front one. The downstream one you can either leave in or buy a plug and plug it after you correct for it in the PCM.
