regal with no heat

Killa Bee
so last night it was raining, the wind shield started to fog up, so i hit the defroster, turned up the heat, and all i get is a/c cold air. i did grab the heater core hoses and they are both hot.

my car does have the digital dual climate control unit too. nothing different happens when i switch to manual dual control, its still got no heat.

when i got this car it had the hot air on one side cold on the other problem, but unhooking the battery would reset the actuators i guess and it would work just fine.

so i've used only the a/c since like April and it worked perfectly the whole time, ice cold both sides.

so i unhooked the battery last night, and this morning the heat still dont work, and now when i start the car it cranks at least 5 times before it will fire up, it used to fire up on 1/2 a crank. WTF happened here? is the pcm relearning or something? this has never happened before to this car, and ive had the battery unhooked a bunch of times before. other than the excessive crank to start it its running fine, no cel lights or anything.

ok little update, the car is back to starting with in a crank, runs great. the heat is now ice cold on the driver side, hot as hell pass side, no mater what the temp control says. the fans not coming on when i hit the button to raise the speed, so if i set it at 5 its stays at 1, if i let it sit for a bit and hit it to 4 the fan will step up to 4, but still not be responsive.

its done this before, a long time ago. so unless you guys have any ideas what could be messing with it. im going to let it go for a day see if comes around on its own like last time, if not ill try unhooking the battery again.

im thinking its time for a new climate control, its been repaired for the lights and still have a few out so it may be worth a shot. unless any of you guys with regals have seen this before.

Since your passenger side works, it is most likely the actuator on the driverside that's giving you a hard time.

the pass sides not working right either, its hot no matter if the temp is set for hot or cold, same for the driver side, cold always. and the climate control is acting in a delayed fashion as far as the fan speed is concerned, the rest of the buttons function correctly.

BTW, the blue ....if your car was optioned for it was for autodimming.

I'd take and look under the dash at the actuators. Then change th etemp to the opposite (with car up to temp) and watch the actuator for a full minute. They can take up to 40 seconds to move.

i can hear things moving around, still hot pass side, cold driver side, the a/c was nice and cold both sides till i needed heat to work and it didnt turn on, so i unhooked the battery over night and now i got a climate control unit that acts all f'ed up.

my rear view was, it leaked out, and had been opened up and cleaned out. never saw any dimming in the side views tho. they both had the same plug and wires in the same places too, and i think the blue one came off a century.

how deep do i have to go to see the actuators? just remove the kick covers off the bottom of the dash? i've pulled the heater core out before and dont recall seeing any.

and have you ever seen a climate control act up after reconnecting the battery? or do they just seem to work fine for everyone else in the world? im really thinking its the climate control unit its self.

my climate control acts stupid for a few min after reconnecting the battery

mine is acting stupid all day lol

even tried pulling the fuse for it, to give it a hard reboot, no change.

every time i pull the battery this happens too. frigging blow job.

now its cold on both sides no matter where the temp is.

the fan, now get this, i push the button up to 5, it dont spin any faster till the temp display goes back to outside temp, then i hit the fan button, it will go to what ever setting its set on.

and now the outside temp says 64 deg, its clearly in the 80's today lol

the fan is still not working right, but i got a/c still on both sides, no heat needed right now lol

ok little update i guess, i got to removing the driver side actuator, and was able to turn the shaft and make the d/s go from hot to cold, but the pass side is on its own actuator. so i get that one off, and the shaft is really hard to turn i had to use pliers to turn it.

i worked the temp buttons and the actuator was turning, but as hard as the shaft was to turn i bet it just couldent get the job done.

any one ever see this before?

oh and i found this under my glove box, have no idea what it is....

i lubed up the shaft and its turning better, but the actuators not turning the shaft all the way, so i figure i should just change both of them.

i found the new part # for the pass side actuator, but cant find the driver side one listed anywhere .

the # i have for the driver side is 18163982, i cant find this one, need help, what # should i use?

the pass side is 16163982 replaced by # 52402588 or 89018365, the new # for doorman is 604-106 of course this is the $100 one.
