reduce engine power warning

Hello, a little desperate, I have a 04 grand prix gt, I was doing a little maintenance on the vehicle and I was revving the engine for too long (the engine must have a governer so i couldn't pass 3500rpm) after a few seconds i got a warning on display reduce engine power. I left the car on thinking it was nothing but a heard a puffing in the exahust, I decided to drive around but i would press the gas and nothing made a u-turn came back home, can anyone give me an idea where to start, did i blow a gasket or ??? a keeping on getting warning signal
 


I would let it sit for a little while with the engine off, start it back up and see what happens. Maybe the computer put a temporary limiter on it or something to that effect......I dont claim to be an expert or even close, but just a guess. How long were you on the gas? Were you on it steady the entire time? What do you mean the gas did nothing. Are there any other lights on or codes? Please add more detail
 
I let it cool off and still the same, I can't remember how long I was on the gas pedal, and I press the pedal all the way sometimes, when I drove it I was pressing the gas pedal and got no power from engine when it's on I press gas pedal and no response. I also have check engine light that came on, sorry but I don't have a scanner.
I still have the muffled sound, could it be that I stomp the catylitic converter?:th_scratchhead:
 
my guess is just that..........you fried the cat. You will have to get a scanner to read the code though. Can you get to an auto parts store that might have one? Auto Zone or someone like that? You also possibly could have damaged some sensor itself by creating that much heat if you were on it for an extended period? Let us know what the code is and go from there.......
 
There could be a myriad of things causing your reduced power state. That car has an electronic throttle, so in the reduced power state, it doesn't matter if you push the pedal to the floor, the blade may only partially open.

See if you can drive it to an Auto Zone or something and have the code(s) read. If not, you can borrow a scanner from them (deposit required) and return it once you're done.
 


okay I unhooked the battery for about 20 min, connected it back and it stumble a little on first try, cranaked it again and turned on fine again,:th_clapping: my local autozone is closed already but i'll drive there tomorrow or get a loanner scanner if possible.
I pressed the gas a little(:auto1: well not that much after what happened) I get a little hesitation, but I guess it's a sensor, I'll know until I get a scan, I'll tell you guys what it is once I know

I went autozone got scanner and it read MAP sensor high input.
i just change the pcv valve can that be the cause?
Any advice:th_shakinghead1:
 
Ok I troubleshooted the car, I put the old pcv valve and worked fine, drove around and didn't get any kick backs, so I tried to put the new one again and I noticed that the old pvc valve had an o-ring (gasket I guess) replaced the pcv valve and works fine again.
I'll go again to autozone to hook up scanner, let's see if codes clears

I'll let you know guys if code is cleared
