Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Recent Recall

oh they identified the issue with the series 1 engines as well as the series 2.
they redesigned the hold down grommets and bolts between the series 1 and series 2.
why do you think the LS motors ended up with a really tall cylinder head rail height and really short flat valve covers with that same style of ring gasket .
trust me they knew about the oil leak issue. the fire issue was probably not as noticeable on the test mules considering the short span of time that they rack up miles vs the years that a typical car takes to rack up miles.

every design has a flaw

Lol I find it crazy that the 3800 gets singled out for vc gasket issues.

If you dislike the 3800 or gm for the vc gaskets, what will you do when you find out about the leaky intake gaskets? Lol

Yeah..., I mean it's not that hard or expensive. It's not like the issues a 6.0 Ford diesel has, lol.

didn't read anything here, but i'm going to put in my two cents on this.

have any of you ever tried to ignite oil? it's ****ing hard. why don't you start a fire everytime you change your oil and spill some on the manifold? pretty easy to see that the oil isn't the issue, even if it's leaking on the front header. i'm more leaning towards the real issue are rotted o-rings for the injectors which leak/spray fuel all over the damn engine bay. now, FUEL is easy to light and once that's going it'll catch a whole bunch of crap on fire.

so take that as you will. most people have never replaced those o-rings.

Fuel has a very strong smell, you'd think that would be associated with the stories. Burning oil is definately less potent. And the orings should get changed, the lim gaskets are always going bad and they come in the kit. Not always I know.

There have been pictures of a near bad fire, there was a guy here on the forum a while ago. He smelled oil and pulled over at a gas station, popped the hood and saw a small fire right on the manifold under the valve cover. He got a fire extinguisher from the gas station, and put it out. He posted a pic too, just the very bottom of the engine cover was burned. Clearly not fuel related. His case was the typical one I'm sure.
If someone could find that thread I'd be impressed lol

I've used oil to help start fires before. It definitely ignites.

I think that's the one I was talking about, impressive lol.

Yeah it takes a decent temp to ignite oil, I'm assuming oil has to build up and drip way down the manifold where the heat shield is, I bet it stays nice and hot in there for a few after its shut off.

As I doubt GM will fix the gasket and I will be in that area anyway, should I install the ZZP HV3 insert when I change the gasket? I heard there is a DIY HV3 insert(bill) that involves cutting and gluing...Anyone have good instructions on that or should I just buy the HV3?

When I was n/a I wanted to do the diy hv3 but I found nothing other than a vague basic idea of what has to be done. Then I bought a supercharged gp, but that's probably what they would have done anyway lol.

And Ford took care of it. That engine is one of the best diesels they have. I would take one over the new international motors anyday. Amazingly, they didn't go bankrupt like another company I know of.
There is no point of them even releasing a recall for these cars. Don't park in the garage, or don't have any other keys on your keyring, are some pretty piss poor solutions to some serious problems. I hate this car.

I've seen pics of what some guys have done.. it's nothing crazy.. just cut the inside of the runners to about the height of an HV3 leaving enough of the top/outside edge to hold it together.

Ford took $5.9 billion dollars to refurbish their factories and have an additional $9 billion dollars sitting in reserve until 2022.

The catch to get the money was to start building more hybrids.

Ford also to money from IMF since they have previous relations.

Ford flew under the radar with this even tho they took that money at the same time as GM. Also it was Ford's CEO who started this whole problem and the other 2 followed.

Ford also hasn't paid **** back just so you are aware.

fvck these recalls when is gm going to recall the pontiac badge and remake that!?

buicks pfft who wants those.............

blame china

GM said many times over that Buick was selling really well in china and they didn't want to pull the plug on Buick in china. Buick was making money were as pontiac wasn't. so as a business i understand why the pulled the plug, I don't like it but hey not my choice.
