Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

rear wheel drive '02 gp, good idea?

It should fit, just gotta do it right. And yeah I thought bout that after my last post, but just really gotta reinforce the new subframes with the "X" frame under. And where ever else it needs

Started measuring and what not, then winter hit and been too cold out to do anything. Sucks I don't have a garage lol

I'm very much intrigued to see how this will go, seeing that I'd like to try doing this to my GP if I ever have the chance, with an LS motor...Heck, I'd like to see if an AWD system can be set up in one of these cars somehow...A lotta fabrication would have to be done, to be sure, but where there's a will, there's a way. ;) Good luck on it! Sounds like you've got a hold on what will have to happen!

Hm, looking at what the guy did to his '97 GP, I wonder if cutting out a few panels (Firewall, Trunk floor (Probably not viable), Trans/Driveshaft tunnel, etc.) from a Firebird from '95-'02 would work to help everything fit better? Heck, what about the whole drivetrain, since they used the same motor? XD

Subbed! If I can find out how! XD

An AWD system probably would be extremely difficult, but if ya used parts from like a Subaru WRX it might work. Guess that'll be my next project lol. Haven't really done much with this project as of yet, im still looking around for parts and ideas, had a few changes to my idea, but they wont work. And the idea about using the firewall, trunk pan and the trans housing is a good idea, ill look into it more.. and to all of you who is subbed to this; it will get done, im just not gonna jump into this build with just an idea of what I want. Like the guy in the link. He built as he went, and addressed problems too late. Measure twice, cut once.

I would be trying to do a 4wd swap instead of awd. That way you could do awd launches and turn off the front end when you want to do burnouts.

That is a better idea, and both the AWD and 4WD cars I've seen is a bit higher than regular 2WD cars. And im pretty sure when I go cutting and fit up a new frame it'll sit a little higher, so it'd make sense for it to be higher with a 4WD setup

You could even go so far as to use a mini truck frame like an S10. It would fit the powertrain nicely and be less of a giveaway and require less cutting than a full truck frame.

Yeah, I've thought about this for about 5 years now...

Actually I was thinking about an s10 frame, but haven't had time to check into how well it'd fit.. and I had just seen a few small trucks and SUV's at pick-a-part last week when getting a part for my Jimmy.

A couple other options would be an older Toyota or blazer frame. I think an s10 would probably be best due to how many ls swapped dimes there are, you can find bountiful information on them all day. The older s10s just swap to ls with 1" setback motor mounts and a wiring harness and PCM to get it going. If you get a 4l60e that should wire right up or upgrade to a 4l80e and get a conversion from nelsonperformance.

5 years? Why haven't you tried it man lol? And ya do got a point, because im always finding s10 frames and a few blazers and Jimmy's almost every time I open my browser lol, im gonna see what I can find this weekend, maybe ill strike gold on a frame.

Well I checked into the s10 frame; short bed reg. cab is 190in long, 67.9in wide, 108.3 wheelbase. Its the "GTM325" platform FR. First and second Gen is basically the same except for the rail setup by the looks of it, and if memory serves me lol. And the sixth Gen gp is; 196.5in long; 72.7in wide and the wheelbase is 110.5in. A third Gen Ford ranger is closer though; 188.5in long, 70.3in wide, and the wheelbase is 111.6in. Im thinking about checking a '98 crown vic to see how close that is, because there was a retired CVPI (crown vic police interceptor) at a garage here in Elmira. and I wouldn't mind having the frame, engine and tran ect. to it, but ditch the body of it lol... any opinions fellas?

Ok just checked out the specs for a '98 CVPI; 212.0in long, ('98-'06) 78.2 wide, and the wheelbase is 114.7in, track width front is 63.4in, rear is 65.3in. While GP track width front and rear is 61.5in... who thinks this would work using the CVPI? Im thinking it'll work but will need a little extra customization, plus haven't slept in 2 days so that might be clouding my judgement lol.
