Rear strut/springs

I have a 2000 GTP and I'm changing out the struts and I'm have trouble getting the top bolt out where the strut bolts on the what I call the knuckle. Is there a trick to getting this out? the bottom bolt popped right out when I hit it with a hammer.

Just to clarify, if you've already got the car up on jack stands, put your hydraulic jack under the knuckle or ball joint and take it up just a tiny bit - you're just trying to lift the weight off of that bolt. Once you've relieved some of the weight, bang away and the bolt should pop out easier.

I had this same problem doing one of my struts. I took the top one out first one the other side and had zero problems. If you can find something that grips it without stripping it then turn it like a screw. I was only able to get mine so far with a hammer then had to do that to get it the rest of the way.

I don't understand why everyone has problems with that bolt, even on my dads car all rusted to hell I hit the bolt and it flew out and hit the fender liner.

I Agree. I've never had this problem and I've worked on many w-body struts. Just use a BFH and you should be good

Thanks everyone. I ended up cutting the head off and using an impact to pull the bolt through the other side. Going to tackle the front pair this week.
