Rear Speakers

I just bought a 2002 gp 40th ann edition. The rear speakers are shot. It has the standard single disc factory player. How many watts does this put out? I want to buy new good quality speakers. I just want to make sure the player will have enough power to drive them.

Any help would be appreciated.

No Bose nd I would like to keep the look original. Other question, how do I get thr rear speakers out?? I am seeing remove the back seat and rear deck. They don't look like they can come down from inside the trunk. Is this accurate?

Thanks in advance.

yup, you have to take the rear seat out to get to them....... just went through this........... fun fun!!!!!!! NOT.......... but the outcome was well worth it. :th_jester:

It took me about 20 minutes to remove the back seat, and I have a coupe! When the back seat is out just lift the deck cover and the speakers can then be accessed. And I just picked up some Infinity 6x9's and the difference is night and day. I also have a factory head unit.

Seat bottom is a piece of cake then 4 bolts to remove the back???? Is the rear deck fastened or is it held in by the seat back??

Thanks for the help guys and gals !!!

The seatback has two 10mm bolts on both sides on the bottom. When those are out, the seat lifts off of the back deck. Then there are two door-panel looking clips that you pry out and then the deck cover lifts off.

Had the 4 18 mm bolts and three clips to get to the speakers. Of course one bolt did not want to come out but that is normal. Otherwise pretty easy except Detriot doesn't mark positive and negative so I had to guess to get them wired right and in phase. After that they sounded great.

Under the Duh category I lost one seat belt bolt. Could not find it anywhere until I realized it was stuck to the magnet of one of the old speakers already in the garbage can:th_angry-cussing:
Thanks again to all who helped me out. Loving my GP!

Just did a rear speaker replacement on my '97 GTP, not to bad just took time. I sweated my butt off , lol.. Here's what I put in:
6x9 Eclipse SE6900 -- (Hind sight prolly bad choice) 4 ways
4 1/2 Kenwood KFC-1062s coax
I did the doors a while back,
6 1/2 Kenwood KFC-1362s -- doors
I left the tweets in the pillars alone...
Stock head unit - prolly upgrade in the future :D

Do replacing the backs really help in sound quality and volume, I replaced the fronts about 2 months ago and it helped, it still seems like my stock rear speakers are wimping out the whole system. I had replaced the headend units about 3 years ago to a pioneer 6000 unit with usb.

I know I'm late, but...

RMS? Like 4w. Remember, it takes doubling of the power output for an additional +3dB (roughly).

I want to buy new good quality speakers. I just want to make sure the player will have enough power to drive them.

It will not. Not even close (just got done installing my amp -- if there were an expression to contrast difference more than black vs white I would use it here).

Any help would be appreciated.

Ready for receipt of one unit of appreciate :D

I think so .. Their 92db spl. which is pretty efficient.. The front/doors for sure now it's a clearer sound not muddled.. I have a iPhone and use a FM modulator thru the antenna that plugs into the phone for sound and charges too. The volume is lower than it should be kinda like line level, but I can go full volume on the factory unit and still sounds good :th_nervous:

Like I said for now it's fine, but may get a head unit in the future
