Rear left tire locked up

I have a 2001 Grand Prix GT and out of nowhere my rear left tire has locked up only when I put the car in drive. I can drive it in reverse no problem and it rolls in neutral. But when I put it in drive it freezes up and only my rear left tire is frozen. Def a brake prob but I dont know it its the parking brake or not. I can drive 40 feet in reverse then drive 40 feet in drive til it freezes up. Or drive 4 feet in reverse and get to move 4 feet in drive before the tire locks up. Thanks for any help.

sorry to start an old thread, but I am having a similar problem with my left rear wheel. Have anyone found something other than the e-brake being the problem? could it be an ABS issue?

jack it up, take the wheel off, take the brakes apart, see whats going on in there, could be any of the above mentioned things, only one way to find out, open it up.

search you tube for how to vids, brakes are to easy to let a shop do.

Another possibility is the bolt came out of the caliper and the caliper fell forward and is jammed against the wheel.

Only way to find out for sure is to do what Scotty said and take the wheel off and investigate.

Ive seen this before in an other thread. The guy said it wouldn't move in reverse, but would in drive, and thought it was a trans issue. Turns out one of the caliper bolts had come loose, and would jam against the rotor in only one driving direction.
