you can remove the front knock sensor, that will help remove some of the coolant in the engine block, worked well for me.
 
Just make sure none of the DEX-COOL is still in there and mixes with the Prestone, that is if the Prestone is not DEX-COOL compatible. The reason being, there will take place a Chemical reaction causing a deteriation of intake manifold gaskets. There was a class action Law Suit stating DEX-COOL was corrosive. Well it turned out that people were either mixing DEX-COOL with conventional Green Antifreeze or inadequately flushing the system. Apparently DEX-COOL doesn't play well with other types of coolant. Google DEX-COOL interesting legal articles.
 
is anyone doing their own flush? I thought a flush involved pressurizing the lines and flushing it then, not just draining it and replacing it. Is there anyway to do this yourself without having a "flushing " pressurized machine?
 


So, Here I go giving my 2 cents... Empty entire sytem and install a in-line flush T in a hose you can reach. Fill with water and have a garden hose hooked up to flushing tee (warm water from hose is best) Start engine and open drain cock, keep your eye on the engine temp of course, run the water and it will wash 90% of the engine block. It's old school but still works. Then DO NOT put DEXCOOL back in. Use universal antifreeze. Dexcool has an ingredient that eats aluminum parts.
 


i got the tee at a local auto parts store. it took me about three hours, only because i flushed with straight water twice before adding the super flush. man it was dirty in there. car runs cooler and even sounds smoother. but now my water pump needs to be replaced. oh well. if i didn't stay busy working on my car issues, i'd have to focus on other issuses in life. lol.
 
I'm changing fluids while the motor is out. I just dumped the radiator fluid out when I had the water pump off. then I ran a hose through it <_<. I'll probably take both knock sensors off to get what little bit may still be in the engine. No more Dex-Cool yay!
 
One post mentioned that DEX-COOL corroded Aluminum. Actually it doesn't it seems to have a bad reaction when in contact with certain plastics. From 1996-2003 the LIM Gaskets were constructed of a Nylon material called Nylon 66. Over time DEX-COOL and this Nylon gasket were in conflict and the gasket lost. In 2004 GM changed the gaskets to an Aluminum one but only in their Flag ship vehicles like the 3.8's in GP, Monte Carlo, Impala. If ya have anything older than a 04 I would consider dumping DEX-COOL 04's and up I would change the DEX-COOL yearly every two for sure. It's not cut in stone that the new gasket won't fail but it suppose to have a better chance.
