Hi, I watched your vid, your car sounds nice. Do you have the silencer holes filled or is it just ported. I will be getting a ported case from Brian and he does not like the idea of using epoxy to fill these and Im not sure if I want to take the chance. Im still undecided but if it sounds like yours without filling the holes then I will be happy. Thanks
 


filling the silencer holes only makes the blower louder at part throttle. its fun, but completely useless as a mod. i have mine sealed.
 
I wouldn't use epoxy because if you don't have an intercooler to block the bottom of it from accessing your vulnerable motor incase they break loose from boost. I wouldn't trust it. Brian just hogged the living crap out of my blower case. He didn't use any epoxy on it. That and I was running a 3.1" pulley which helped out the whine a bit ;) If you have a Facebook gimme your name so you can see what they sound like with a 3.4", ported TB, and Ported S/C case...it'll give you an idea of what it will sound like and I have pics of Brian's work on there so you know what you'll be gettin' ;)
 
you wont be dissapointed. anybody worried about the epoxy falling out is paranoid. depends on who installs it i do agree though. i will be posting a vid here later finishing up my install now.
 


i totally want to do it as well. but yeah i am also pretty paranoid about that. that would really suck. i dont understand why they put those in there from the factory. they should want the blower whine

It is all about form and function from the factory. No motor noise and quiet exhaust.
 
So I should be paranoid about some metal chit falling into my motor in the case that it does fail and damage my pistons? Yes.


Agreed. I think the Cons far outweigh the pros in this instance. Thanks for your feedback, I have seen Brian's work and it looks really good. I have read lots of articles on porting a roots style blower and unless you know what you're doing, you can actually make them flow alot worse. I think Brian has the experience and I would not trust just any old person to do this after reading up on it.
 


Air Leakage Ports:

The two oval slots on the output plate are air leakage ports. Their only purpose is to decrease operational noise from the blower. Arnie, from Eaton Corp., explains their function like this, "When you stomp on the gas, the boost shoots up and the air flow goes supersonic. The air then slams back into the output plate and through the leakage slots, which reduces the hammering of the air into the housing causing less noise. The OEM can not have such loud NVH, that’s why we put them in the housing. The 2 small ports are not there to feed air, only to reduce noise." Basically, for the best flow and most efficiency, these ports can be blocked off, making the outlet port (triangle slot) the only port on the outlet plate of the housing. Closing these ports will not increase IAT's; however, it will make the supercharger much louder when in boost. As an example, aftermarket supercharger companies, such as Harrop, Roush and Magnuson do not use these slots in their blowers. It should be re-stated, that you should consult professionals regarding closing these ports; and do not, for any reason, plug them with JB Weld. Improper closure could eventually lead to pieces coming apart and loose debris destroying the rotors and housing. Opening up these ports will only have a negative effect on efficiency. Do not port them.
 
The sound of the blower. Keep in mind its a stock pulley and stock air box and its that loud. It changed the exhaust sound noticeably too, on the good side.

Oh ok. I was gonna say mine is not ported and has alot more whine but Im also running a 3.35 pulley and open cone. Thats pretty loud for a stock air box
 


i dont run an intercooler and my epoxy sealed slits have been there for like 6 months already. you guys know i dont treat my car well.
 
the whine is determined mainly by the intake and TB setup...a ported blower helps a little bit but it is not the difference...I noticed more whine with the N* install than I did back when I got the blower intalled...
 
The epoxy staying put will not be an issue enless you can really mess something up during the install. There is hardly any pressure where the slits are and not NEARLY enough to push something like that out if that's what you guy's were refering to.


Anyone who has ever messed with a good amount of blower cases knows that sometimes they are pretty scared inside of the casing from when the bearings wear out and the rotors rub.

The epoxy has been tested for some time now and has yet to fail. I can only speak for the sucess that we have had working with it both inside the blower inlets and inside the S/C slits.
