Question: Engine is cooling off to much on highway driving

I had an issue with it running to hot, I cleaned radiator and put new hoses and also installed a transmission cooler. I also had some other work done such as lower intake gasket and some other major work. During low speeds the car runs as expected and fans turn on at 220 with a 180 Thermo in it non bored. Now when I am driving on the free and on a cooler day it cools way down sometimes throwing the check engine light on.

My question is there anything I could make or buy that would allow me to slow down the air flow during cooler days? Sounds weird to ask when everyone is trying to make there engine run cooler because it's running warmer then before but where the weather is getting cooler where i am it's really running to cold and i don't want to be having the check engine light on and burning up gas because my engine doesn't get to normal OP temp.

this forum is great i learned a lot from reading on here from other GP drivers and thought I would post a question any help would be great.
 


Stock t-stat would be my first choice.. BUT if you are dead set against doing that, then you can slip some card board in front of your Radiator...
 
They're correct. You need a stock temperature thermostat. Without your car being tuned for the cooler thermostat, you'll have big swings in temp like you're having now. Best to just put the stock temp back in, bleed it, and square it away. I think you'll be set then.
 
It shouldn't be cooling off that much on the highway. I have a 180 and it only gets down to 182 on the highway in the middle of winter. Sounds like your thermostat is stuck open.
 


another possibility is your temp. sensor might need replacing. Reason I say this is because I had a problem with my car running too cool (didn't know it was a problem at first) My temp gauge never got above 175 during normal driving with a 180* T-stat in. Replaced the temp. sensor and she reads right where she should now. Maybe try this if bleeding and T-stat change doesn't help ya.
