Putting in a switch for subwoofers

Just because you are an EE doesn't mean you know anything about car audio. I have a good friend of several years who is an EE and who does he call for his audio help? Hmmm, that would be me.

And if caps did any good, then people with high end sound off competitions would use them and guess what, THEY DON'T.
 
Just throwing this in here, i had 2 12 inch audiobahns and a 2000 watt class d swiss audio amp in my caddy , lights would always dim when i had it cranked and it hit. Added a 2 farad cap and it made a huge difference.Lights didnt dim and i never had any problems with it.Ran the system like that for 2 years.It is just a bandaid fix, but it did work.

Good way of putting it. If you know ahead of time you're just better off doing the upgrades necessary to prevent it.

But a 2000 watt amp is also relatively powerful for stock wiring...
 
I run a cap only because my new setup came with it. My old setup i was running was a 900 watt amp, with two 12 inch kenwoods and it would dim the lights pretty dwecent when they hit. The new setup is a 1300 watt kicker amp with two 12 inch sonys and witht eh cap installed i deffinately notice the difference int he dimming. Personal preference but if you have it, and you feel comfortable putting it in and running it then go for it. Im just one person but im satisifed with mine.
 
I saw the name tc300 and recognized it from the bad info I've read on the caraudio forums he mentioned lol. Capacitors are useful but only to an extent. The correct way is to beef up your wiring to handle the extra load on the car's electrical system. The capacitor is like stated earlier a band aid to the problem. I don't run them by personal choice but I do understand their benefits. But knocking someone for wanting to run one is just plain retarded and makes you look like a douche bag. But as mentioned earlier the big 3 will be your best benefit to do. It'll help your entire electrical system.

You're just misinformed about the truth. Don't always believe something just because people say it on a forum. I agree with you not to use them because there are better ways to correct the situation. But they aren't necessarily bad just not needed.
 


if you havent got a solid answer yet here you go. connect one side of the switch to the remote output wire (usually a blue wire) on your headuint, and then run another long length back to the amp and connect it to the remote input on the amp. theres your switched remote wire to the amp
 
thanks nicks, appreciate the fact u actually read what the thread's about lol but yea someone said similar on page 1, page 2 to here is mostly people ranting about caps which wasnt the original intention of this post

This. You have caps on the amp that handle more power and are.the.size.of a quarter usually

My Kenwood head unit is easy to turn the subs off, hit the middle of volume for menu, hit again turn back one hit, again, turn it to off.
