Pulley question

Hey guys, I did a bunch of research including the thread "safely modding your 3800" and went ahead and modified my car. I thought I had everything right but the other day when I got on it I think I seriously damaged the motor. 5 out of the 6 of my plugs were damaged and after replacing them it sounds like it's knocking slightly. I'm going to do a re-build this summer. I want to keep it as cost effective as possible. This is also my daily driver so I don't need anything that crazy. Anyways this is what I have done: 3 inch downpipe with U-bend delete, PLOG, AL104s, K&N intake, a new magnuson nose drive with 3.4 pulley, and a custom dyno tune. The guy that tuned my car said he had to pull a little bit of timing but he made it sound like it would be fine, obviously it wasn't. I told him to let me know if that pulley wasn't going to work so I could upsize. My future plans were to go up a size anyways and get it re-tuned but the car never made it that long. So I guess my question is once I re-build this motor with everything I currently have, which size pulley do you think would be safe to run? I don't have any info on KR with the 3.4 pulley. Thanks

Scanner, get it.

If you really got a tune for it, then I don't see why this happened.

Next time, for your first mod, get a scanner and go that way.

First, you state you read thru the safely modding thread but go and throw a 3.4 pulley on and then ask if it is ok by the tuner and that you will pulley up if not!?!? You contradict the very information provided in the thread and now you must rebuild or replace a motor.

An expensive lesson I would say!

To answer your question though... A 3.8 pulley!

Well motor #1 is already toasted. That being said don't go off and get pulley happy until you rebuild the motor and scan. Stick w/ the 3.8 first then if knock free start to drop and you should already have something like a Aeroforce to scan with right off the bat. Sell the plog and get a set of SD headers while your at it. I know you want to cheap it as cost effective as possibly but there's a right way and half ass way when it comes to modding. Im sure you don't want another reason to pull the motor again.

1. Cheap
2. Reliable
3. Fast

You can only choose two.

I used to see stuff like this all the time on the 3000GT/Stealth boards. "I want to run 10's, but I only have $200. Tell me what I need to do."

Thankfully most of those kiddies stayed behind when a good portion of the forum moved to a new one.

The best advice anyone here can give you is REASEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH.

Research is the best advice anyone can give you.

Ive learned everything i know from this website alone.

Been here for almost 2 years now. Everyday i come on here and just read random threads from "General Tech Discussion" or the L67 threads and other misc. threads. I just read through them and try to learn as much as i can. I can now hold my own with Grand Prix's but i still have alot more learning to do.

Just continue to read and research on exactly what you want to do.
