Pulley Opinion

Finally the car is pretty much done... I am looking at pulley options right now so wanted some opinions. I have done all the reading but some further input would be nice.

Mods:

99 GTP

9" HAI
1.84 YT's
SD Headers
Catalytic Converter on
104's
Big Dog Wires
Shell V Power 91 = Sunoco piss 94 IMO

I was thinking of an MPS system but a few local guys have a 3.4 & a 3.35 press on pulleys for next to nothing. I am hoping to get Overkill to do an in car tune as well. I am thinking I start at a 3.4 but don't want to start there if these mods will support in all likelyhood a 3.3 lets say. An MPS system will be over $100 in comparison but then what pulleys do I purchase?

From people's experience with an in car tune will I likely get lower than a 3.4?

I know that timing makes all the difference in the world. I wasn't actually sure if this combo would get away with a 3.2 so then I back off to a 3.3 & hopefully 0 KR or instead of a 3.3, run a 3.4
Hoping for high 13's @ 100MPH but that will be pretty tough on a 3.4 I think?

With an S1X, Gen V, 3.4 , headers and 3.29's I pulled 13.18 at about 104 in a bonneville. And it's heavier than a gp.

No..much cooler charge on the Gen V and then spinning slower adds to that.

I should probably mention that on big boy slicks..(that run) I pulled over a 2.0 60 foot. Spun a good ways down the track. It wasn't my night. To anyone looking at the timeslip, High 12's were possible. My point, if you are aiming for 13's.. it should be possible.

Sunoco 94 is E10, so some cooling effect from ethanol, extra three points of octane and ~5-10% less fuel economy.

Shell V power is E0 so no cooling effect from ethanol, don't have to worry about ethanol absorbing water if you ever store the car, less octane, more fuel economy.

Benefits to both really.

Be conservative with the pulley. Having to run less than optimal timing or very close to the verge of KR is not ideal.

Better to have a slightly slower car and more reliable car.

I prefer the V Power for the mileage & I find the car runs better too. So with a 3.4 I should be easily ok on V Power?

3.4, V Power, and a good tune with more timing.

As said, bigger pulley with more timing will out perform a small pulley, low timing, possibly knocking car. Go 3.4 and if you ever want to go say intercooling and drop even more you can get a modular system then. Baby steps, do it.

a 3.4 might still be too small.

your only "real" mod is headers.

Rockers don't help out enough to enable you to run a smaller pulley unless you like to run right on the edge.

If will tunes it, he will not get more timing. its 16 or less.

I honestly don't find my car runs any differnt on Sunoco 94 over the shell V power myself other than the V power nets better fuel milage, I'm going to run V power and suplement octane and cooling with a meth/water injection very soon.

Seems like a number of people have good success running a 3,4 on just a 3" dp and intake. I figure headers and rockers have to bit a bit more efficient than a downpipe. Anyway, i will bring a 3.4 to the tune and hopefully it will be zero knock and max timing. What is optimal timing for these cars?

Any harm in me driving car and going wot with these mods, stock pulley and no tune? Car might actually have a pcm of some kind as the fans stay on.

If anyone has actually determined MBT, no one has published it.

Will will most likely set you up at 11.0 AFR and 16* timing which is just fine.

You'll probably be fine driving the car without the pulley, with those mods.
