Feel free to pick this apart or take it as you want but I look at it this way:
1. DRM- (digital rights management)
Sony- Stated they have no control over 3rd party developers = EA/Activision etc. may require DRM anyway.
Microsoft- They have DRM. They also have the ability for you to play all of your games at someone else's house without having them there. They also have the ability of up to 10 "family members" to play your games wherever they want, on their own profile without the game physically being there. If you look at it that way, they need to have DRM or everyone would just be pirating games. They also still allow you to sell used games. I could care less, I don't buy used games and I don't sell my games.
2. Hardware-
Sony- Hardware looks better. Will games take advantage of that? Will I notice much?
Microsoft- Requires Kinect, 100 dollars over the price of a base sony. I don't mind the Kinect sensor, there are plenty of privacy settings and It'll help me convince the fiancé.
3. Online-
Sony- Requires PS+ $60 a year now, hopefully they don't get hacked again and shut down for 3 months.
Microsoft- Xlive is $60 a year too, but cards show up here and there for 30-40 year subscriptions and now has group Skype chat for free, I guess that alone is a $60 deal, yay.
4. Multi-use-
Sony- Someone may know more, but I know you can stream videos from the pc and play music, something similar to windows media center but not.
Microsoft- Windows media center xtender and an hdmi in input. Anybody looking at htpc's and getting rid of cable should know this is where it's at. There is more and more to this, but I think xbox is ahead in this category.
5. Controller-
Sony- Personal preference, I cant stand them.
Microsoft- Comfier than ****.
