Me and Adecker were bored so we are trying to build our own supercharger boost controller. So far we have full control of solenoid switching resolution and pulse width. We have no idea if this is actually going to control boost or not.... too wet outside tonight to test. Feel free to chime in if you have any suggestions. Pics and videos below.

Why not just buy the easy performance supercharger boost controller?

A few reasons:

Money: this is much cheaper
Entertainment: very fun project if you are into small electronics and can program well.

And why not...it's storming out and we had stuff laying around for the most part
 
I just used a simple $2 switch years ago that was wired into the BBV solenoid that limited boost to around 3 PSI then when it was flipped would go into full boost. Although it didn't ramp up boost it worked really well on the street allowing me to launch on low boost. It was great when I wanted to manipulate my time at the track depending on what index class I wanted to run in. Always thought it would be cool to use a push button system for setting up street races by allowing you to sandbag. Also makes your friends think you have some nitrous on the car too.

Neat project though. Looking forward to updates.

This is basically a glorified switch, the difference being we can go full on, full off, or anywhere in between using pulsing (In theory, haven't tested it due to the rain). If everything works out, we hope to get an RPM reading from the car and use that to create a "launch control" of sorts to help launching.
 
Or what we were also going to do is delete the whole diaphram spring setup and just hook a small servo up the the bbv and then hook a spare map sensor up to the arduino and then basically set it up so you can set a specific psi and then have the arduino manipulate the servo as nessary so you dont go over that psi.

Servo would be ideal for longevity, but the cost is greater.
 


Im an e85 guy so i would like the option to drop the boost down if i suddenly have to fill up with gas. I also would like to be able to drop the boost down in snow / rain or when other people borrow my ride. Otherwise im an all or nothig guy.
 
I kept pullies in my glovebox and swapped them out and changed tunes when I wanted.

Speaking of tunes, are there any changes necessary for what's going on in this thread? I could see that going either way.
 
As long as the maf curve is right the fueling will stay consistant.... its just not going to reach as high up on the maf table. As long as the maf is tuned right the pcm could care less. It just knows hey.... iv got this much air i need to burn.

Also we got to test it tonight. Results are coming in a few mins

Kinda what we plan on happening. We beat the living **** out of it last night with all sorts of different values. It controlled boost great and actually we could change by as little as 1-2 psi if we wanted to. I'm assuming the solenoid is going to just give up eventually though.

I don't know why frosty hasn't posted the video from last night yet, Ill see him at work and ask him why. It shows full boost control.


Mise well make an electronic throttle body to serve the same purpose.

What? I have an 04Gp so I have drive by wire. And that sounds like a heck of a lot more work than just a simple controller circuit and some programming.
