Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Almost a daily driver

Hooked up the tuner one last time, just to make sure... Should pass emissions once I get over there. Muffler shop tomorrow.

Scott..it's called Arizona. They don't even have real dirt there.

Brandon, you rebuilding the pistons because of the rubber drying issue Aridzona has?

I want to see your copper cooling pipe

Post #551. Try to keep up buddy!

Wrong-o Monday, er... Bill. Here in Arizona, all we have is dirt. In fact, some of the hardest dirt you will ever encounter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caliche

I mean... Maybe, not really. Couple factors; The rebuild kits are super cheap, and it's not hard to do. The calipers themselves are 17 years old at this point. I'm assuming they've never been touched before. The last set of junkyard calipers I got were disgusting inside the bore. Full of green/black "fluid". Once you pop the pistons out to clean and inspect, it's only a little bit more work to rebuild, so why not? Cheap insurance on what could possibly be the most important component of the vehicle.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Almost a daily driver

I thought you were going to polish it, I wanted to see bling! Now I iz sad

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Almost a daily driver

Ha! This truck is 0% bling. I painted that pipe satin black.

Dropped the truck off at the muffler shop. Said it might take a couple days to complete. I guess they're really busy right now. Should have it back by Monday at the latest. Went over all the options and pricing. I asked if he'd be willing to mock and tack everything in place, then let me finish weld. He was cool with that, and figured it would save me about $150.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Almost a daily driver

Brake hardware came today so I was able to finish the calipers. Got everything back together. Ready to bolt in when I get time.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Almost a daily driver

Not a bad idea. I'll hit 'em with a disk right before install. No telling how long it'll be before that happens.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Almost a daily driver

The way you are going...not too long.

Did a wheel bearing on an Audi today. Oh...what fun

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Almost a daily driver

Very soon guys.

Truck is back in my possession. Exhaust is pulled to do all the finish welding. I'm pretty happy that it all comes out. Not very easily or quickly, but it does all come completely out in 3 pieces. Final assembly will be held together with 4 TorcTite band clamps. One on each header collector, and then in the middle section near the cats. I wanted it removable for serviceability. Things are so tight. It would be impossible to change an O2 sensor or header gasket if those mid pipes were welded at the collector.

Earlier in the day the guy called and said it was almost done, but he couldn't remember what I wanted for tips... I laughed and said "just plain pipe, nothing fancy." I got a picture of the termination before I pulled everything. Could pass for a stock setup, which is what I was hoping for.

Really looking forward to getting it back together to hear what it sounds like with a full system. Gonna hit all the welds with VHT raw aluminum to keep things from rusting.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Almost a daily driver

Exhaust is all welded up and re-installed. Just waiting on the band clamps. Here's a little sound clip.

Specs:

2-1/2" Dual pipes
Ebay shorty stainless headers
Summit dual chamber mufflers

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Almost a daily driver

Of course you know I'd have rather had the kinda turned-down angle at the tip, for a Trans Am look. lol. I bet the camera smells like exhaust. Sounds like a nice nasty little tone. I like both out one side just fine, had it on all my straight sixes :th_laugh-lol3:
