Power Windows ... Wtf am I looking at?

I don't even think the previous owner had any intelligence whatsoever.

The plug is missing five wires. I count one, two, three, four, and five. So now where do they go and how do I know?

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

they took the plug for another car? or it melted and they cut it out and never replaced it? who knows. used cars right.......:th_scratchhead:

Easiest thing, that I would do is go to a pull it yourself junkyard and just pickup the entire door harness. Install and be done with it.

That looks like someone ran door speaker wires. (the two brown ones) and the yellow blue and black are from the power window switch. Maybe a home installed alarm with window automation?!?

Just replace the door harness like bill said. Less confusion and less risk of an electrical fire. I did it when I replaced my drivers door, unfortunately for me the 97 doors didn't have provisions for the lock sensor so if I manually unlock the drivers door my alarm goes off. Whatever.

I found a yard an hour away with a harness. Have to make a trip out there to get it but whatever. It gets me what I need. But really? This was terrifying to look at lol

It could be worse. I found out today that the shop that replaced my flex plate when I was in school and couldent do it my self actually cross threaded ony of my my flex plate to torque converter bolts.

Clearly someone did some hacking. Did you check for power/fuse/relay. If they cut the wires.. who knows if they left them live, popped a fuse etc etc.

Fuse is fine, the wires behind those are fine too. I am sure of the connections I have made, and I am sure there is no tear in the harness for the door as I traced it all the way back to under the dash behind that plastic cover. No wire harm done there.

The switches have power I assume. The little led light that glows at night powers on, and the power lock, side mirror motors work.

How am I able to test for actual power to the switch? The motors are fine, used a 12v battery from a drill to test them.

key to run, pull the plug off the window motor, now work the switch and test inside the plug for power.

you can also run 2 wires from the battery to the window motor to see if they even work. switching the power wires side to side should make it go up or down.

I've got the day off of work, will go ahead and test out the wires for power.
I should be expecting 12v to the motor, no? And I've already tested the motors with a drill battery. They work going up/down without a problem :)
