I lost power steering the other day completely out of no where when turning off of the highway at high speed.. almost crashed..someone with less upper body strength would have.. I parked the car and turned the engine off to regroup myself then started it up and it was fine.. Drove home.. checked fluid level and replaced the belt.. had not one issue until last weekend the same thing happened again right when I got comfortable it was a fluke and almost took out my couzins Bike..with him on it.. I mean completely dead power steering.. let the car sit that night (no where near home or a jack or a shop) and tried again a few hours later.. still no response.. Next morning i decided to leave early for the long drive home with no PS and it was fine again.. I checked everything I can?? how is this possible to come and go like that.. right now its perfectly fine... I am selling the car but want to resolve this before it kills someone. Ive never heard of a pump doing this and I have no leaks and the belt is not slipping.. its a 2006 GPGXP

the only recall when I called the dealership was for a power steering hose and it was already fixed on my car. The stability control isnt on my display.. It just completely locks up at lower RPM. I have to get up to 2grand to be able to turn the wheel. I don't want to start replacing things randomly.. May do the pump anyways because if someone else drives my car they could die.

just drove 160 miles home from up north.. it cut out again as I was pulling in my driveway.. I just don't get it.. talked to a few GM service guy buddies and none say it makes any sense. I am cursed!!!!!!!!

I had the recall done which was the poer steering hose and I also had to have the pump replaced but it has happened in awhile so I'm crossing my fingers

Well I am still having the damn problem.. This time I popped my hood and PS fluid is everywhere as if it sprayed out of the cap.. I don't get it.

Well it should come out of the cap cause the cap is on pretty tight and I don't think there can be that much pressure in there. What the problem was the high pressure hose at the front of the motor would break or leak and then blow. That's why they issued a recall for it as it can cause a fire.

The recall hose was replaced before I bought it.. The fluid is definately coming from the cap at high pressure I watched it come out.. What would cause such a build up??? It is definately worse as the motor heats up yet it is still not a constant problem.. I really hate to do the pump just to find out its the rack.. Anyone have a suggestion for course of action? How hard is the pump swap anyways maybe I will just change it myself to find out.
