I'll round up some links then. Mostly old car stuff but with applicable tips for all cars here and there. I was curious what the part looks like, if it extends into the B-pillar hinge area or not. Have you messed with cutting spot welds before at all? R&I-ing the rocker molding might be the worst part of this job!
 
I want the rails off wrecked purple car, only if they weren't thrashed lol. My Ohio car has rockers like that with a little bit of rust, clays regal still has paint on the rockers.

Now that I see a non-rot one, I can tell the sealer in between the two pieces of metal there is what causes the corrosion. The rockers must not quite have enough paint on the inside from the factory.

You ain't gittin my rails! lol. One is fairly hamburgered, I found it by walking the ditch a week later. Doggone it, that was your chance to grab one for free that week. I'm thinking primer those and then paint that 40th lid and spoiler plus rails. Bumpers need love too but could wait. I'm awful lazy, y'know.
 
I thought you meant in general. My comp g has 0 rust on it :D

I had never seen a rusty GP until I got on the forum. If one has rust here, it didn't come from here. Of course theres the possibility that a train-load or two of those panels got less corrosion protection on the backside than the rest before being welded onto a body. GM is consistently inconsistent in that way. Glad your G is rot free, wish my 69 GP was but it ain't.

Any of you other (rust belt) guys use internal panel coating, aka "cavity wax"?
 
Nope just wash the salt off once a week through the touchless wash in the winter undercarriage wash is niceeee. Except it took off my wheel weights.
