Be wary of Dave and advice.. he helped me root mine and I ended up with a purple unicorn on the splash screen

Ah I'm sorry I misread what you said. I thought you said it went south, not IF it went south, my bad.

These days, everything is pretty open, so rooting and custom ROMs have become a thing of the past, but you can still do it (although it is nice to be able to do). You can mess with system files for custom boot animations or change the dpi of a phone. More experienced people will mess with exposed framework for injecting custom options and the backup options are nice. There are other things you can play with but at some point it is better to get a custom rom.

Custom ROMs are becoming few and far between these days since the S5 and S6 have locked it down and it is next to impossible to do anything with them. Most phones do pretty good without needing a reflash, I only do it for unbloated pure android feel because these Launchers that are given by the manufacturers are awful most of the time (*cough cough* touchwiz by samsung). But a good stable Custom ROM, to play with the software buttons, mess with status bar, notifications, and other things is nice, plus loading a custom Kernel can make a phone even better.

I still rock a Nexus 4, I see up to 36 hours of battery with a screen on time of 4 hours or so, which is really really really good especially for the age of the phone and battery.

It was the AOKP roms, he actually requested the purple/dirty unicorns IIRC. Said something about "A friend at work said to join him and his unicorn fan club with Dirty Unicorns on their phones."

HTC Desire 816. It's an older phone, but the price is right. Should do everything I want it to. I don't need the latest and greatest. Just wanted something better than what I have now.

I mainly root to get rid of bloat and for backups. Also like playing with Tasker. Still have my original Droid rooted on miui. Now have LG G3 on aicp.

But my favorite mod by far is an extended battery. I've only owned phones that I could get extended batteries for, since my LG envy flip phone. I hear people talking and complaining about how little battery life they get with this or that phone and don't get it. Have a Hyperion on my g3 and can go 8+hrs screen on time. I'm no slave to my charger and refuse to be. That's why I won't get an iPhone or s6. Sure you can get a case with a battery, but then its usually much bulkier and costs a lot more for a reliable one.

I've heard good things about its battery. I got my wife one recently and haven't even asked her how its doing. For me the real test is being able to use all the features and still get good life. I have screen brightness maxed, GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth stay on. Also have tasker doing some background stuff and use Gravity (awesome app BTW) which keeps my proximity and axis sensors on much more than stock. I've yet to have a stock battery that can keep all this going all day. I'd be very impressed if the s6 could but I doubt it.

To me, having all the features but having to limit them is like owning a GTP but putting a 4.5" pulley on and running 5° timing in order to save gas.

Dodge is coming out with a Barracuda, a Dart GLH and a Alfa based Charger. Jeep is bring back the Grand Wagoneer and Pickup. While Ford is bringing back the Ranger to the US.

I think after a certain year or something they stopped putting the actual number they were, but I could be wrong.
