my back one fell out, dealership had no idea why it ticked for 5 minutes after a ice cold start, then stopped. assholes. i found the bolt missing after finally sticking my head in the wheel wheel well and seeing the black tell tail signs of a exhaust leak on the head out the manifold.

my friends truck snapped off 3 bolts. lucky the heads only broke off and i was able to get the manifold off, and take the bolts out with vise grips.

installed studs from napa. f them bolts.

pretty easy job really, for either side of the engine.

If you want, you could just blast all the leaks with brake cleaner to clean and hopefully swell up the seals. Works on Fords all the time lol.

Could try a Lucas additive to slow down the leak as well.

The exhaust problem isn't too bad like Scott said.

Hes taking it in tomorrow to get it fixed so i didn't bother filling it or i would have. He asked about a trans flush and they told him 325 because they run some sort of cleaner through it and do like 2 filters and then the flush to get the old fluid out.

I tried to explain that too him too lol didn't work, hes not getting it done but I'm assuming i can do a pan drop like on my car and its just as easy? Looked like nothing was really in the way of the trans pan bolts

trans flush is easy on those trucks. take upper hose off the rad, put a barbed fittin on the line, then a clear tube to a bucket. run the engine till you see air bubbles in the clear tube, shut it off, fill it back up with a few quarts, the repeat till new fluid comes out the tube.

but if its got high miles and bad looking fluid, the same rules apply as a gp tranny. pan drop and filter change is best.

no idea on the axle seal. dont look like fun, but id be in there ripping it all a part to fix it before i let a dealer touch it and over charge the life out of me.


any time you read about me a dealer doing work on my stuff it was because it was under warranty. i had tons of warranty work done too. on both my bought new gmc trucks.

pan drop is like 4 to 5 quarts too. only issue is clearing the shiftier linkage on the side of the pan on a 4x4. you need to do a little prying to get past it.

2wd trucks it pretty much falls off.

oh, and theres a drain in the pan too.

Oh thank god a drain bolt lol. I was lazy looking and didnt see one but I read there is one. Think that draining fluid add new filter then drive it drain and add a second time should get a decent amount of old fluid out shouldn't it? I'd only do that to help convince my grandpa to let me do it and not let them flush it.

the plug is a large torx bolt too on most ive seen.

you could do the pan drop filter and then dump the fluid again. but the one time should be fine.

Best of luck with that pan bolt.. lol Cam and I discussed those in the past. Worthless because they don't come out. Best of luck clearing the linkage. I did my best and mopped the fluid out then did filter etc. Damn exhaust was in the way as well as the linkage

Yeah I noticed it looked pretty close. Next oil change I'll examine everything more.

i didn't have a large enough torx bit, so i never tried to get it out. drained the pan like a w body tranny. theres always one side that will hang lower.

the exhaust is only close on the 4x4's. back on was much easier then getting it off on my brothers yukon. we were both like why did that go back on so easy????

my friends 3500 hd 2wd the pan just needed to be wiggled past the linkage.

Kyle? Just some advice, if your gramps gets a trans flush at the dealer, do not drive his truck for a while. You don't want him pointing fingers at you if he has transmission issues lol
