Post Whoring - 5.5.1 - We have a turd in the punch bowl

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

It better be cold, and the greasing is almost finished lol.
Never heard of such a thing, mines just about empty anyway.

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

my daughter might go nuts for this 100% fruit juice juicy juice fruit punch.

but damn is it awful when you're just trying to enjoy a bit of vodka.

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

Well tried to get the bolt out again, got it cherry red nothing. Welded a nut on it and got it hot again and it just snapped again further in. Oh well, off to the scrap pile.

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

You still didn't get it hot enough.

I literally was starting the melt the bracket before I got it free on my mom's.

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

I've gotten them out with the bracket glowing red, if it snapped again it's too far gone.

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

^^^^^

That's productive.
Where's the splitter?

hey, news flash, get the wood away from your house. you want bugs?

in other news, thats a hell of a lot of cut wood.

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

Quick question, can you replace the condenser without removing the radiator completely? I know I have to remove the fans and was thinking the radiator could just be pushed back to slide the condenser out.

Not my house, I have a blue house.

My father-in-law wanted it there...I asked if he was sure, he said yup.

Any of y'all have experience adjusting a carb. Just rebuilt a buddies edelbrock 1406 carb cause the shop wanted 450 in labor and only 40 in parts but I need to adjust all the fueling.

I've done that before. Not much there to "rebuild" fortunately. Tuning sans-dyno and O2 gauge is simple. Consult carb's manual for procedures. If it doesn't run great as-is the first variable you'll want on hand is the step-up spring assortment. If the buddy is using a mild cam and displacement of 350 CID or less, the stock config is a winner most of the time. Mine is 750CFM and cruise mode was very lean on my cam, 2 jet sizes and different needles. You will need the table in the manual (available online) for making jetting changes. I did not make it as far as the secondaries, WOT was OK for me so no change. Pump shot was fine as well. Idle screws on mine like to be out 2.5 turns, doesn't like 3 or 2. Yours should be similar, Q-Jets use 5 turns as start point but thats no good on these. However those step up springs work in Q-Jets!

Dad has a down tree waiting on me. Man I hope it ain't a pile like that diddlevine bunnywhip pic bcuz wedge n sledge after 16" electric. Nifty! Not near as hot here but plenty muggy of late.

Almost got all my injury and wreck papers done. I used the long rainy weekend for it, just now to a point where I can look at any of that stuff and not get mad. Spent like 20 hrs on forms and such learning new printer and all. Then another that long at one sitting, writing out the entire experience and trying to edit out all the personality so its all relevant. Harder chore than a guy might think. I know I got 3 meals and sleeps in but its kind of a blur. Paperwork looks good though, lol

Work was kinda a circus today... I started a couple days' gentle and well documented teardown of the blue/white 67 Ford pickup. Its not too shabby but sure shows it's age. I'm just glad they pressure washed the majority of the moss off it beforehand and kinda scraped the twig layer off the top of that ancient mill.

So ended with 2.5 turns earlier but still isn't right. It's a bone stock 350 but something is still off about it. Guy who swapped it into the truck took so many shortcuts I spent have the weekend straightening them out

Off-idle and part-throttle driveability is largely in the step-up springs and the assortment is real cheap. If by chance the thing has a cheap aftermarket HEI distributor on it, pull the coil cover and if you see "China" grip yank chunk, swap in a B-W or Super Coil. I had one of those on the big Ponch, random hi-rpm misfire but both windings checked out resistance-wise. It finally died altogether. Just a tip, in case its that. If you get stumped, I'm an old hand. Not a pro mechanic just grew up late in the contact points area when this carby dizzy stuff was common knowledge.

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

Oh hey also- some of the intakes that carb "fits" on barely pinch the gasket in one spot. Look for a good imprint on the base gasket. A short spacer might help if so. If using a carb adapter... some of those are nutso, like the spead bore to square bore. They are for guys who want a deer whistle out of the deal, lol. In that case, score a proper intake.

If your 1406 has been tuned for a thumper, that might be the trouble on the mousey 350. Get out magnifying glass and ID the jets / rods then reference the manual. Out-of-box tune is damn near universal on those-for mild stuff anyway.

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

Well it almost sounds like it has an exhaust leak or misfire when hitting the gas pedal with it in gear. I was actually just in the middle of pulling the distributor when I read this. We replaced spark plugs earlier.

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

Dribble ATF down her throat at around 1500 RPM, see if it smoothes out. Could be a valve sealing issue that might go away with carbon cleaning, or if it hasn't run in awhile perhaps a sticky lifter if its a bad miss with pff sound on one hole but not an exh leak. Got EGR stuff on that intake? A vacuum gauge could help figure it out.

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

No EGR ****. But the damn thing had more vacuum leaks than I've ever seen. Fixed most of em though

Re: Post Whoring Thread 3.0 - Bill loves zee Germans, forget you W-Body guys

If you haven't eyeballed that base-to-manifold fit yet, its a common problem spot where contact is only maybe a 1/8th". Even if its an Eddy carb on an Eddy intake a misfit is possible in some cases. The gasket imprint would tell. But that would not seem like a one hole problem, it would affect at least 2. Maybe you just have an intake leak. If by chance the carb and intake were on a hotter engine previously, not only might the carb be tuned wrong but if the intake was milled to fit milled heads it might leave you with a bad seal at the bottom of the intake gasket. That would suck oil too.

Just throwin stuff out there. If you get onto something more specific and need an ear, I pass through here at least once a day.
