Porting with a dremel..?

OK before anyone says anything, yes i have searched and i found a couple things but nothing specific. Ive read that it will take forever to port a Gen 3 supercharger. Is this true? Any idea on estimated time? Im just looking to take the V down further and then obviously smooth it out, not go to crazy... Worth it to take a stab with a dremel if i have some extra time or will i go crazy and start smashing my head against the wall? Also, i probably should have thought about this a couple weeks ago when i replaced LIM gasket and supercharger gasket, but since the supercharger gasket is just basically a paper non reusable gasket, do you think it will be safe after 2 - 3 weeks if i take it off or did i just waste money?

if the blower gasket tears at all you cant reuse it, but if you get it off clean you should probably be okay.

with a ported blower. wouldn't you need to make the blower gasket bigger??

Never thought of that either... You think ill be able to get it off safely without ripping after being used for 2 weeks or you think im screwed?

Entire afternoon isnt to incredibly bad... From what i was reading i was under the impression a full day or 2.
 
also depends on the bits and how aggressively youre going at it. i would suggest you invest in some carbide bits.

Cool, thanks.. Yea like i said im keeping it nice and simple.. Def not planning on going crazy with this. Just extending the V at the bottom at thats all.
 
what type of bit did/do you use?


because i'm thinking of just buying a another blower with similar miles to my car just to make my life easy and make this a quick job, per say
 


i have heard people using a saws-all to open up the bottom of the V. i think this is what im gonna do when im done with the heads. cut out the notches and then clean it up with the dremal.

i use the following bits:

i have about 4 different sizes of the above round bit. they were invaluable to cut the area around the valves when i was porting the heads.

these work great on iron. but if you use them on aluminum or what ever the blower is made of, the bits will clog up. it is good to have a piece of iron or steal around so you can go back and forth and use the steal to clean out the bit.

another problem is that for long periods of time, the dremals will get very hot and you will need to let it cool down. so sitting there all day you may end up destroying the dremal. i would think your best bet would be to go to harbor frieght and pick up a cheap die grinder and using that. dremals arent cheap. so take care of it. if you are going to spend $80-100 to replace your dremal once done you might as well buy a case that is ported off ZZP or other site. esp if you need to buy bits too.

but if you have access to a saws-all or even a hack saw that you can flip the blade and run it backwards thru the V that can save time and will prob make a cleaner cut too. if your doing this method, i would put a towel in the case so you dont scratch the surface. and also tape the bearing area where the rotors go in. you dont want metal shavings in those bearings.
 
i took the notches out with my sawzall then used my drill with dremel bits to clean everything up. I did the inlet as well. I also bought some grinding stones from autozone 5 of them for $3.19.
 
Hmm.. I do have access to a sawsall or however its spelled... That kind of scares me thinking of taking that to my supercharger, but i guess your right it will save a hell of alot of time and then all i got to do is smooth it down a little bit... Just have to convince myself it will all be ok. :)
