Just for ish and giggles here, decided to put it up to a vote. Been throwing it around in my mind ever since my high school counselor (I'm a senior) was telling me his experience in starting college and how he took a out a student loan and got a nice car and what else he needed etc. So anywho, it lit a light bulb in my head to trade the GP, use aid money, and get the G8.

Now before y'all go crazy, I would go to my local Univ., my grades are HIGH and my income is LOW which means I would get paid to go there...literally. So the student loan would be money in pocket PLUS whatever I get back from scholarship...

Soo, the question is: Should I take out the loan, trade the GP, and get the G8 OR should I wait until either a. the price comes down, or b. I am in better financial state.

Keep in mind my age and how HIGH insurance would be. I do have a job though so it would HELP with a car note, prolly wouldn't pay it though.
But depending on my aid and amount of loan I might take out, I would like to get this car before it gets too old and worthless and Pontiac is no more :(

**Keep in mind guys, just tossing around the idea. Probably not going to happen but there are always possibilities**

You are way to broke to be owning a G8 GXP......

when your therapist ment was a CHEAP car.... not a 36,000$ Ride...

dont be dumb and get into debt over a car!

In this economy...you have to be crazy to buy an expensive new car with a loan.

Even if the economy was good, i don't care for the g8 at all, its a nice car but, after i drove one, i was let down.

Good point.
And exactly how were you let down? Describe the experience.

Honestly, don't become a slave to your car payment, which looks like you would end up doing. Enjoy the car you have maybe take that extra money you have and mod it to where you like it, but don't live beyond your means and become a slave to paying off a car. Especially while you're still in school.

the whole tap shift is sloppy, it has a lag to it and it will automatically shift even when using tap shift. Better off leaving it in D. Im sure some kind of tune can fix the issue but common. Power wise, it was quick but, i was expecting a little more out of it. If you want something similar get an m6 ls2 gto or even an m6 ls2 cts-v they're cheaper and more fun.

My GP isn't worth modding I don't think. It has too many cosmetic needs and it's a GT. Granted the engine has 114k, everything else including the tranny has 159k soo I don't wanna invest too much. Thought about doing hv3, plog, and a tune and calling it a day.
Maybe I should look into trading for either a better, newer GT or a GTP

A GTP would be a lot more within your means. I had the same problem when I was first looking at cars. I was gonna get an STI until i realized how far out of my price range it was... The I saw the GTP and was instantly in love (more so than with the sti). Insurance was a hell of a lot cheaper and I just enjoy the car everyday.

yea. i mean my GP right now is worth somewhere right under 5k. So I could trade it and not owe THAT much on it you know. But the thing with the GTPs I see on CL just by glancing is that they are higher mileage so I wouldn't want another tranny waiting to start messin up. I want to find a old people owned GTP like FFDP did. But then I'd have to do all the general GP work allll over again like LIM etc.

get a GTP

and throw a 3.4 Set up on it.

let me finish this for you

then get rockers, then intercooler, demod rockers, then go cam, heads, then demod and go bigger cam, built trans, spray, then demod and go turbo build, then part the car out and demod on here or club gp, then get an ls powered car

that is the lifespan of a gp

whats wrong with the trans you have?

LOL that sounds about right. But nahh I'd never get into cams and intercoolers and stuff I don't have enough know-how to do all that and Dad wouldn't want to jeopardize my reliable means of transportation 8)

So yeaa. I thought I'd be happy with my GT, and of course I am I love my car, but now I'm just a power hungry whore.

this is true.

Then mod it. U will spend less than what you would on a newer car. You can topswap under a grand and go from there. I would suggest a built tranny tho.

there's no way i could afford a built tranny. and idk where to find the top swap material. are no gtps in the junk yard. i look :/ all GTs and half of them are burnt up :/
