your only a student right now, live with what you got, pay off your student loans as the interest is high then buy a new car once you have started your career job after finishing school. be happy you have a set of wheel right now when so many other students don't and have to take the bus

Spend half as much and just get a Trans am. Mod the trans if you wish and then the G8 will be in your rear view mirror the whole time.

For a guy going to school right now and having a car payment every month, take my advice and keep what you have. It's payed for and it still runs, so just be happy with that.

It's nice to have a new car, but being a student and taking out a loan to buy a car is not smart. You'll end up paying for the car twice instead of once with all the interest they will add to your loan.

You dont want a new car going to a college. To many idiots. I know I sure wouldn't want a new car going to college I don't trust people driving down my street let alone morons in school.Keep your GP Its cheaper to fix what little things may be wrong with your car then to buy a new car.

I recently just did this. I had a 05 GTP that I traded in for my G8. I say its worth it if you can afford it. When you have it in manual it only shifts until your close to redline It will stay in the gear you selected if you have sabiltiy control off. I spent 150 on a custom tune and it really opened up the car even more.

I'm plaining on doing a ethonal conversion on my car. My tuner has a G8 that he tuned for ethonal and he goes 12.8s all day.

Youre going to love the G8 amd kick your self for not getting one sooner

Ha, thanks. But in a real perspective, I CAN'T afford a G8 whether I like it or not. I love the body style and would kill for a GXP but I probably need to hang out with my GP until college is over.

I would keep ur GT and watch cl like a hawk for a steal on a GTP. And I would also spend a little here and there on ur GT to keep it fresh. Which is exactly what I've been doing for the past year and a half. lol.

Depending on your income you might be able to afford a G8 GT. I mean it'd be like 300/month but for some that's not a big deal. I'm happy with my $140.18/month :)

Realistically there's zero chance of you getting a GXP. Just sayin. GT or go home to dream some more. In any case school is more important so you should just wait till you're done with college or land a nice paying job. Remember, if a car looks too nice for you to afford, you probably can't.

Drive the car you have till the wheels fall off and you have a good job...then go spend the money you HAVE SAVED...not borrowed and end up paying back an extra 8 grand on a car that won't be worth half as much as you originally paid for it.

lol true.

i was talking to a co-worker today and she was telling me about her friend who goes to the University of Memphis (where i am considering going) and how her financial situation was similar to mine and she gets $2000 back per semester.

so with that being said, makes me kinda wanna trade the GT for a GTP (97-03 of course) and just pay what little more i owe from the trade. wouldn't be out a bunch of money at all.

i took my gp to school. i drove it maybe once every two weeks, if that. it also had to sit in all kinds of inclimate weather and was beaten on by every other person in the parking lot with doors and keys. you also have no idea how much college costs. i thought i would be ok without a job... i literally had $20 in my account when i moved back home after second semester. i love those loan checks too, but i also got in trouble when i decided to drop classes. i now owe a university 1200, and that isn't including the 6k for a full year at bg, and i'm still two and a half years from graduating. if you have the title to your car, that means nobody can take it away, and you have no idea how secure that makes you feel. don't mortgage something as important as a car on financial aid checks

dannng. see idk if i can even park my GP on campus. i am psycho about people messin with my car. a dent or scratch and i'd cut up sideways.

my car may not be perfect but dammit yall aint gone ruin what i do have ya know.

but nahh i think what i'm gonna do is use my back money and trade my GP in on a GTP. pay the minor difference and just slowly do a couple things with it.
i should get at least 1-2K back money at the University in my town due to grades etc. So yeaa, my GT has lots of little flaws so I might just find me a nice GTP and trade in. plus i'm turning into a power hungry bastard lol

there's no way i could afford a built tranny. and idk where to find the top swap material. are no gtps in the junk yard. i look :/ all GTs and half of them are burnt up :/

So let me get this straight.........you're contemplating purchasing a G8, but you can't afford a built tranny?

What am I missing here? :th_wtf:

Keep the car you have and purchase one after college. I've heard of people wanting to purchase a brand new car like that the day the leave college and some still advise to get your feet under you. You're still in high school and are thinking of doing it. I don't get it, this just screams "horrible idea."

you must not have read lol. i said it was just an idea i was bouncing around depending on aid and loans. but im trying to avoid loans and i'm not in the position to buy that. just wanted some perspectives on it.

and what i meant by the tranny was i can't afford something like that as of right now if i top swapped and just went with what i got.
later when i get money back, sure.

just don't forget you have to pay it back. idk about you, but the fact that i'm going to be making monthly payments on school for the next 10-12 years of my life is depressing. i kinda stress making 100 dollar payments on my truck each month and i can easily afford that

pay off school now, pay off car later. do not do it the other way around or you'll be in debt forever. be smart about it.

I have to say Im making car payments right now on my GP.. granted I love the car but I still regret it I could have found a much cheaper with better fuel economy. Granted everyone likes to spend their money in different ways. But sinking it into a car payment every month.. Id rather spend it on the car itself
