Polishing Exhaust Tips [*]

It looks like its on fire!!

Cool write up to man! Thank you

looks good man , specially for being done by hand i tried that but it didn't work out so well.... but i keep my stock tips around for a rainy day project

Here are mine that I did today. I need to get some sandpaper and start wet sanding. I am not good at sanding, or wet for that matter. Does the dremel have sanding you can get for wet? I am new to the dremel. Just got my dads this weekend. I am going to do some cleaning around the engine this weekend.

at the point youre at stay away from the dremel. just wetsand liek the writeup says and youll be in good shape.

im selling my polished tips too!

Oh I know already. I probably should never have used the dremel. I bought a wire brush attachment to my drill, just like the dremel and it worked great. Then I used a rotary sanding attachment that is used for rust and paint removal. I then cut it down to fit deeper in the tip and that is where I am now. I bought some 1500 and 2000 grit sandpaper and will be doing that tomorrow.

Thanks

I saw a car lastnight with polished tips Wasnt a gp but the tips were simular im thinking im going to pull the tips tonight and start polishing ive got nothing but time right now

yeah while its so dang cold outside, i thought about pulling in the basement and starting to do this. sometimes i just wonder if i wanna keep this car or not. i do enjoy it(although my wife drives it)...maybe doing a nice polishing job will make me luv it.:th_biggrin2:

Very cool! Love the idea that you kept the stockers on there and made them look like a work of art, but how do you keep them from turning black inside? Tried that with mine and they just turn black in a week, any secrets?

Polished metal does this. It's unavoidable. As said above, just keep cleaning them. I personally would polish the outsides, and paint the insides black.

SaW1833, sounds like a good idea. I have a Corvette with a Corsa exhaust on it and the inside of the tips are painted black with polished chrome exterior.
