• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Plesase help.

I just did a Lower and upper intake manifold gasket change on a 97 Grand prix se with a 3.1. can you tell me if these are the right torque specs for the pushrods bolts and lim bolts. everyone tells me 89-in lbs for the rocker arm bolts but that dosent seem to tight. this guys complete teardown i got from this site says that about it:

30.) Put the new LIM gaskets in place and put a new bead of RTV sealant along the ridge between the heads (The RTV sealant bead should be ~5mm).
31.) Reinstall the pushrods (making sure they are in the correct order) and put the rocker arms and bolts in finger tight (Making sure the small ridge on the bottom of the rocket arm pedestal lines up with the in the heads). Now torque all the rocker arms to 168 in-lbs, then tighten the bolt an additional 30 degrees.
32.) Slowly and Carefully lower the LIM into place on the heads MAKING SURE that it is perfectly lined up (It's easiest to tell by the ridges along where the valve cover gaskets used to be).
33.) Coat the LIM bolts with the pipe thread sealant and then put them in finger tight.
34.) Torque the top 4 LIM bolts to 62 in-lbs in this tightening sequence:
4 - 2
3 - 1
35.) Torque the 4 side LIM bolts to 115 in-lbs in this tightening sequence:
8 - 6
7 - 5

Lower Intake instructions Per AllDataPro

  1. Apply 8-12 mm (0.08-0.11 inch) bead of RTV Sealer, GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent, on each ridge where front and rear of the lower intake manifold contact the engine block (1).
  2. Install the lower intake manifold gaskets.
  3. Install the lower intake manifold.
  4. Apply sealant, GM P/N 12345382 to the threads of the bolts.
CAUTION: An oil leak may result if the vertical bolts are not tightened before the diagonal bolts.
  1. Hand tighten the vertical bolts.
  2. Hand tighten the diagonal bolts.
    1. Tighten the vertical bolts to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.) .
    2. Tighten the diagonal bolts to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.) .
  1. Connect the upper radiator hose to the engine. See Cooling System.
  2. Connect the heater inlet pipe to the lower intake manifold.
  3. Install the power steering pump to the front engine cover. See Steering and Suspension.
  4. Install the fuel injector rail. See Powertrain Management.
  5. Connect the fuel feed and return pipe to the fuel injector rail. See Powertrain Management.
  6. Install the right (rear) valve rocker arm cover.
  7. Install the left (front) valve rocker arm cover.
  8. Install the upper intake manifold.
  9. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable.

Upper Intake installation

  1. If removed, install the throttle body. See Powertrain Management.
  2. Install the upper intake manifold gasket.
  3. Install the upper intake manifold.
  4. Install the upper intake manifold studs
  5. Install the upper intake manifold bolts. Tighten the studs and bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) .
  6. Install the EGR valve. See Powertrain Management.
  7. Install the rear generator brace.
  8. Install the vacuum hose connections to the upper intake manifold.
  9. Install the MAP sensor and bracket. See Powertrain Management.
  10. Install the ignition coil bracket with the coils, the purge solenoid and the vacuum canister solenoid.
  11. Install the front spark plug wires. See Powertrain Management.
  12. Install the vacuum hose connections to the throttle body. See Powertrain Management.
  13. Install the thermostat bypass pipe coolant hoses to the throttle body.
  14. Connect the wiring harness connectors to the throttle body. See Powertrain Management.
  15. Install the accelerator control and cruise control cable with bracket to the throttle body.
  16. Refill the coolant system. See Cooling System.
  17. Install the air cleaner duct. See Powertrain Management.
  18. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable.
