• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

picked up new car/got ?'s

lol im not into changing parts till i find the problem, only reason i did the lifters is cause i had some spare ls7 lifters layin around and my valvecover gasket needed replacing...

anyone else??..i guess ill just drive it till it dies and then pick up another low mile wrecked gtp and swap the whole unit in lol

thanks, ya thats the real money pit lol

This is runnin me in circles lol, i used a stethoscope and i have touched everywhere on the motor and from front to back, side to side the noise doesnt really stand out, i can kinda hear it alittle louder when i touch the scope to where the oil pan meets the block, but its not anylouder on any specific cylinder, and its def not comin from the header primaries, i can here it from under the manifold by ear but stethoscope cant tell where its coming from...

Ive spun a bearing in a previous car and i doesnt sonund lke that, and like i said there is no bearing material in filer or oil

The only thing left i can think of is maybe a wrist pin

im like you i went from LS1/LT1's into one of these, But that noise is changing with the idle RPM.. kinda strange that you dont hear it when you rev it up though... Im out of ideas. What ever it is, not a good sound :th_skull:

Exactly my first car was a 95 z28 lol then moved up to the ls1's, this is my daily driver and im fighting with myself to keep it as stock as possible lol, but anyways i was thinking maybe the flexplat is cracked where it mounts to the crank hub, i couldnt really see up there by peeking through the inspection access area, maybe ill try to look with a miirror behind the converter, cause when i am under the car the noise seemed slightly louder by the converter and if it was bearing knock it would have thrown a rod through the block by now lol, 600miles with some wot pulls

maybe a bad timing chain tensioner???

i have also noticed that when the cars warms up to about 200deg the noise mostly goes away at idle but the second the touch the throttle u hear it

Metal expanding could be the reason for the noise going away. I've got an exhaust leak that I hear on cold starts that seals itself by the time it warms up.

Converter is a possibility. My old cammed 98 formula had a similar sound at idle. Almost like a sewing machine style noise. It's possible it could just be the characteristics of the cam that's in there. But I wouldn't count on it.
